I think he does. Hope he sees that a good senior year would help his draft stock though
Somebody made a good point about being an upperclassman and a lack of leverage though in the draft. I still think if he sticks around he can make himself in to a first rounder. I think he's an overall better player than MIke Miller was in college and he was the 5th overall pick as a soph(?). I know he's a better player by far than a friend's kid who was a 2nd rounder a few years ago. Roby will get drafted if he stays healthy, it's just a matter of how high. Heck he could maybe get drafted if he left his year.

Think he could be a late 2nd Rd pick this year.

That sounds about right. And normally I would say another won’t help his stock that much, but in Roby’s case it might. He’ll go from rarely seeing the ball to being the #1 option.
He needs to show he can do this more consistently. I would say against better competition, but Pardon is no slouch in the paint and Roby pretty much neutralized their inside game tonight. Miles had a good game plan defensively to control Pardon. It killed me a couple of times where he got the ball at the top of the arc and didn't even look to shoot it. Of course we turned it over 2 passes later.

I don’t think any NBA team will question Roby’s defensive potential- he just has to learn to defend without fouling. One thing that helped tonight is that NW’s guard play is pretty bad. They don’t do a good job of breaking down the defense or getting the ball into the paint.

A guy his size who can step back, shoot a 3 or take you on the bounce AND plays D and rebounds the way he does is a valuable commodity. He can make himself a better 3 point shooter but he's already a threat. I think he has to get more selfish IMO. He could take a lot more 3s if he would look a little quicker for a shot. He almost seems like he's looking for a reason to not shoot it instead of being aggressive. He shoots it from 3 probably better than anybody else playing much now other than Allen.

I hope you're right, but I'm not convinced that if we make the NIT that Miles won't be retained.

I won’t be shocked at all if Miles is still here next year. Not because I think there’s no way Moos will want to make a change, but because I think it’s entirely possible none of the candidates he looks at will want the job.

It wouldn't surprise me if miles isn't retained. I keep here rumblings the Moos doesn't have his guys locked in

That would be very disappointing because he has had a whole year to be prepared for a coaching change, unless he is waiting on a certain Coach which I think we can’t afford to wait.

Anybody want to discuss whether or not Roby has NBA tools after this game? What a man child. Inside, outside, defense, steals, blocked shots, fast break takes. All the tools were on display tonight. 19 pts, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. I haven't seen how many steals and assists he had but he had some of each.

He has 45 more shots this year and one more made bucket than last year...so he is not getting better.

They also just played, at home, one of the worst teams in the conference.

It would surprise me - because Moos negotiated his buyout to be much less if he is fired this year, than if he is retained.

And why would Moos have his guy locked in already, when there is still a month left in the college basketball regular season, and almost 2 months until the Final Four? Unless it's someone who isn't currently coaching, it would be very hard to lock in a coach who is focused on his current team.

I don’t think many people were arguing that Roby can’t find a spot in the NBA. Just the level of ‘freakishness’ in different aspects of his game. If someone’s head didn’t explode because someone disagreed with him, then maybe that person would have understood the argument better.

Ha!

I swear some people want to compare him to Kevin Garnett.

Copeland being gone for the season makes Roby our best player should be a no brainer with the naked eye..

He's put up more contested shots this year than he did last year by far. With the other options we had last year Roby got a little more space. If you've been watching it almost always seems that when we dribble the ball until the shot clock is set to expire that Roby is the guy everybody throws it to to try to get a shot off. That has happened dozens of times. That said, I agree he HAS to keep working on his perimeter shooting and not get down when he misses a couple. He has such an advantage with his length and jumping ability to get a good shot off even with the D out on him. It's just a much better situation than Watson jacking a 3 with a guy who's 5 inches taller than him guarding him.

What were the different/better options last year? It was the same team.

And putting up contested shots is a negative not a positive, don't you think?

Nobody has compared him to Kevin Garnett til YOU just brought it up. BUT since YOU did, Roby isn't that far off. He's about 2-3 inches shorter and has IMO a better perimeter stroke but doesn't have any where near the confidence level that Garnett had coming out of high school. I'm a T-Wolves fan and have watched Garnett in person from close to the floor several times. Other than a couple of inches of height and wingspan the biggest difference is between the ears. Roby doesn't realize how good he could be.

Gill and Taylor were better options than Watson last year from the perimeter IMO. Taylor seemed like he had a knack for making a clutch 3 when we needed it most. SO, when the clock is running down, Roby often deferred to just about anybody else he could get the ball to if he had it. He still tries to do that this year but IMO he IS our best option now if teams are doubling Palmer.

You guys just don’t understand. He’s tall AND can dribble the ball. OMG!!!
I enjoy your satire usually, but your take before this last game that he wasn't an NBA level talent was off base. He is a freakish COLLEGE talent and he'll get a shot to play in the NBA. Hopefully you don't get to find that out in this off season.

Palmer has talent but I think talent potential wise, Roby's the guy. Guys like Palmer are fairly common at his size. Guys like Roby are not coming out of college. Yes there's a lot of guys like Roby in the NBA, but if you watch the D league, a guy like Roby isn't normally on their roster. IF they're not playing with an NBA team, they're sitting on an NBA bench waiting their turn.

I think someone will draft Roby this year or next, because they'll see him providing immediate help as an Andre Roberson-type leaper/rebounder/defender whose offensive game is still developing. His shooting and ball-handling likely wouldn't even get him a combine invite at this point, but given his athletic upside someone will surely give him a shot.

If Roby does come back next year, be might play with more confidence and deliver more consistent offensive production. That's a big "might" because the talent around him is a big question mark at this point. But if the light bulb comes on and Roby solidifies his offensive game, there's a lot of upside there.

Great point..... except....... where did I ever say that he wasn't an NBA level talent? You're making things up again.
