NU extends David Braun's contract

I really like Braun. This feels like the right thing to do, but this ain't 2019. Is he the guy to operate in this wild west environment? More importantly, is NU committed to success in the new environment?

Great move. He's shown he can win, he's shown he can adapt, he's shown ambition, and he's shown he can retain and attract talent - both coaches and players. Also - he is invested. Chucking his own money into the temp stadium is clear proof of that. Most convincing to me is that Pres Chiang and our AD Jackson were not born yesterday. They know what they are doing. Glad we moved now rather than wait until it turns into a bidding war.

I think part of the move is recruiting. Probably less than before the portal age, but one thing parents of recruits look at is whether a coach will be around for 5 years. With a new stadium and great practice facilities, the only thing the University had to do to nail the deal is a stable coaching staff. Having Braun on board through 2031 shows that the University is committed to this football program.

I think that this season NU will have more highly regarded recruits that visit for games just to see the spectical of the best venue in all of college sports. There are other iconic stadium but nothing like NRF. Renewing Braun is one more thing that illustrates how committed NU is to the future.

The move makes sense. Stability is needed to help with recruiting, etc. The thing is winning solves everything. The problem is the B1G is helluva lot stronger now in terms of competition than during the Fitz era. The Chip era needs to up the ante. Barely making a low tier bowl really isn't going to get it done in building the program over the medium to long term. The B1G competition is insane compared to 1995.
