The Shocker is this team scored 39 runs in 3 days last weekend and not one run on a Tuesday night against Creighton.

The struggles the pitchers had deeper into the bullpen makes a guy nervous about tournament play.

The problem with not treating a midweek non conference game as seriously as a conference game is that we play in a bad baseball conference. Therefore, we don't get many chances to improve our RPI with conference wins. On the other hand, Creighton is a Top 25 RPI team. We missed an opportunity.

Conversely, if we play well enough to win the conference, our RPI doesn’t matter. We’re in.

And a conference championship looks better than a win against creighton.

Each team won an away game against a top 50 RPI team (I think UNL is still top 50, could be wrong). Helps both teams. I think rubber match will have more meaning.

To some degree these midweek games have to be played by ear. Get a lead over Creighton and it's worth running some top guys out there to protect it. But if you fall behind early it's better to break out the punching bags and get ready for the weekend.

Erstad has never won the Big Ten tournament. Depending on how we do in the non con we could still win the league and not get a bid if we fail in the tournament.

The mid week games mean a lot more nowadays than they did in the Big 12. We need to tack on as many wins as possible.

Good point. However, the Big Ten's conference RPI stands at No. 7, so that indicates a two-bid or more league. Still, as you noted, you want to win the conference tournament to put a lock on it.

For what it's worth, we're currently the third highest ranked Big Ten team in the RPI standings behind Illinois and Indiana. Point being, we're kinda on the bubble. Every little bit helps.
