NRF pricing going to be a huge problem

Makes no sense. What was there source of $25 tickets for PSU?

if you are correct, we should never hear complaints about anyone not being able to afford to attend.
The Athletic Department has a mailing list.

And yes, this is why I am leaning towards not renewing my season tickets next year. As long as they are courting the fair-weather fans while I'm sitting in the upper corner paying sticker price...it's up to one of us to change.

I will also reiterate - I think NU did a nearly-perfect job matching the supply of premium seating to almost (but not quite) meet demand. They should leave a little bit unmet so it remains a commodity. Conversely, they have completely fumbled the ball on non-premium pricing, and how to codify it between actual/loyal season ticket holders and visiting fans.

If you're a season ticket holder you're paying in part to guarantee yourself the same seat(s) at every game. At a stadium where most games sell out, there's an obvious benefit to this, even if you overpay for certain games. At a stadium (like NRF) where few sell out, the benefit may not be there at all. But if the stadium becomes one where most games sell out, it's better to be an existing season ticket holder than to get on a waiting list. All depends on what your priorities are.
Well, one of my priorities is not to go broke in retirement. 🙃

We'll have to just disagree. In the olden days (2023 and prior), the STH premium was nominal compared to now. Now it just feels we've been duped

I'm so disappointed in this. Nobody wants to feel gypped. I paid full price for 2 years+ at the Lakefront to have consideration for that at the new stadium, only to feel that they've taken advantage of me. I am accustomed to companies like airlines (1M mile flyer) or hotel chains (1300 nights) not caring, but hadn't had much experience of a company intentionally using my loyalty against me. Some do gradual things (streaming, cell service etc) to see how hot they can make the water before the frog jumps. But to raise prices 2-4x in the name of luxury/amenities (sucks but whatever) and then steeply discount the product for random casual or opposing fans...we'll, I'm disappointed.

I agree with the many voices here who have asserted that lowering prices on general tickets will just put more tickets in the hands of regional opposing fans. None of us want that.

In saying this, I think we all agree there's a difference between when Rutgers comes to town vs. Iowa. No one here is worried that we'll be overrun with Rutgers fans in a couple of weeks.

I think there are many effective ways to address this that would be amenable to our "loyal" fans. NU is bungling this.

I am sure there is a way to provide discounts to desirable groups without filling the stadium with cheap visiting team patrons. We just need someone smart enough to devise a system to accomplish this so that the University is maximizing income while filling the seats with loyal fans. Just lowering all seat prices to accommodate the fringe will not help the athletic department. A sure fire way must be proposed so that we can fund sports and please the fan base.

I totally agree. Some random thoughts that took 10 seconds to think up:

* Offer meaningful discounts or extra purple points/priority to season ticket holders who actually attend all games...they can check this just by looking at gameday scans. They can also base discounts on mailing address and other indicators. Solidify the base and fill the place with home fans.
* Offer one-time parking passes to STHs to games you know won't fill the East/West lots (or Isabella...the gesture is the important part). I walked by well over 100 empty parking spots in the West lot on Saturday...they knew this would happen by Friday, when they could have made the offer to some STHs who were displaced by the new priority system.
* Offer seat upgrades for STHs when you know the stadium will be half empty...so you can sell tickets to the public with a promotional discount without making the rest of us feel like idiots for paying full price. Exclude premium/club seats from upgrades so you don't compromise the value prop to fans who paid for those seats. Imagine if you open the app 24-48 hours before kickoff and you see a complimentary upgrade option for your seats (which you can take or leave)...airlines already thought of this.
* Impose STH resale restrictions on select Big Ten games (i.e. no reselling for games X, Y, or Z on StubHub or other major broker sites). To be clear for the uninformed, there *ARE* ways to complicate the process for brokers and scalpers if the event host actually wants to bother. Build revenue on the backs of visiting fans who are more than willing to overpay for seats to vacation/away games.

Whether or not people agree with the value of these amenities, at least they are focused on the season ticket holder. The ones they have now are rewarding the casual fan, or occasionally something like you can buy more tickets and get free food if you buy more tickets. I don't need more tickets. I have enough tickets. So I like your idea of focusing on the value for the season ticket holder instead of the casual fan.

So despite the fact that I changed my stance in favor of your view, you decided you needed to take my earlier quote and show that it was not right? Ok, continue to be you.
What is up Gary? I was agreeing with you and basically everything you said! Sorry when threads become several days old, I don’t go back and re-read everything you posted in it, I read your comment to me and you misrepresented my position. imagine if I disagreed with you, sheesh.
