I get that. FDU is playing Illinois, Butler Villanova and Nebraska. If they are getting $115,000 to go to Champagne Illinois how much does that cost them in travel? And do they stay out there while they also play Butler? They won't take $85,000 to play us and take the bus to Newark? Is this how far SHU basketball has fallen?
There is also the element of that program selling to recruits:

we play multiple B1G teams
Perennial big east power
Historic venues
Televised showcase games
Etc

I don’t think we offer as much of that PLUS the pay

Why don't we do an NJ big 5? RU, Princeton, SHU and picks from Monmouth, St Peters, Rider, NJIT, FDU?
I would love a NJ 8 tourney event, with Seton hall and Rtgrs hosting first and second round double headers each at their home arena, guaranteeing all 8 teams 2 games.

Then who ever wins each side of their bracket play in a 1 game NIL final at Atlantic Cities 14K seat arena for the Boardwalk trophy with revenues split for the final between Atlantic City, and the two remaining teams around Thanksgiving

That will eliminate the need for the other in state games, the unprofitable November tournament, and allow Seton Hall to add in some better travel and home games against top 100 net teams.

And take away buy games for everyone not named Seton Hall or Rutgers. Would never happen.

You had me until Atlantic City….lol. No one wants to go there; and the financials just don’t work giving up buy games.

I think we have to realize that money has changed the sport so a lot of these traditional series or rivalries have left the building.

Have you seen their RPI the last several years? They’ve been in the 350 range. There are more local teams who can bus to SHU than they have openings for. This part of the country is overloaded with D1 teams.

And BTW….For FDU to make a midwestern trip, you are talking about a bunch of plane tickets as the primary expense. Hotel rooms are probably part of the guarantee deal. Hardly a back-breaking expense. They are still clearing a lot of $$$$ for the experience. Plus, it’s their only time to travel. They ride enough busses during conference season.

What is next their players have never been on an airplane before so this is their chance? The money is almost the same. NJIT is getting 85k from us and they would clear all of it.
I would rather play FDU than New Hampshire and Maine etc.

That would kill our NET ranking. I'd much prefer we play power conference teams in our general region, like Syracuse, Maryland, Penn State, and maybe Pittsburg or West Virginia.
3 Big 10 teams are playing FDU this season and Cincinnati is playing Monmouth and Marist. Those two confernces seem to have no problem with their NET metrics. We used to do the home and home with Penn State and Northwestern at the Meadowlands. The Maryland games were also very good. I like your idea. Even the home and home we used to do with Temple, Richmond and St. Louis are good and fine with me.

How about Kansas State and Alabama?
