It’s true. Artur’s gonna have to grow up really fast. I suspect game one will be okay. The booing will start in earnest game two.

95% of the booing Gary heard was directed at the coaching staff, not him.

I love this
Sitkowski will have his block, too. Old Bridge High School coach Anthony Lanzafama said a big contingent of locals is attending Saturday’s opener against Texas State.

“I’m excited for our town and our community and Middlesex County,” Lanzafama said. “Everyone can’t wait to see him playing for Rutgers. When the announcement came out, a bunch of people here went and got season tickets.”

Very cool of Nova to reach out and meet with him in the future. Art is under a lot of pressure and will need all the help he can get. If anything Art has it tougher with the level of competition he'll be facing every week. I'm excited to see him grow over the years. The fans just have to be patient, which I doubt will happen lol. Also the media will take every opportunity to take a swipe at him

Don't think that's true. Some fans try to claim that on this board but it was a mix of both the coaching and how bad he was playing. If the booing starts once he starts running on the field, how is someone supposed to be able to distinguish that anyway? Its a bad look either way

I suggest Mike Teel could give some sage advice as well. And while this might be stepping on the new OCs toes a little, a little input from Freidgen wouldn't hurt.

I think it is true.. Flood gave Nova WAAAAAYYY too much rope.

Flood wanted to differentiate himself from GS.. actually making comments about picking a QB and sticking with him. Flood was obstinate and there were many cases where the RIGHT thing to do was give Nova some time to learn from the bench.. Flood kept him in there.

So, yeah, Flood was being booed... and Nova's failures after a point where he should have been pulled triggered the booing.. Nova was Flood's victim.

So forget Nova's worthless advice to Sitkowski about booing... someone PLEASE give Ash advice to avoid doing what Flood did.

Nova's snarky attitude also had something to do with the booing. That said, he did clean it up some his Senior year.
This is such bullship, it is not even funny. The players are young and excited. Give them room to mature.

Good quote:
Gary Nova said: “For me it was like, ‘Wow, I’ve never been booed in my life. We won the last game, so why are you guys booing us now?’"

You want to know why? Because there is a segment of our fanbase that are one or more of drunk, angry , classless and jealous of you. They would not have the balls to criticize you to your face, and they get their jollies booing a young man who is out there doing the best that he can. It really is sad that they call themselves college football fans. This ain't the pros.

We should make Gary Nova head of recruiting:
“It was definitely an honor and a great feeling,” Nova said. "There is nothing better than winning in your home state and representing your home state.”

This may be a bit of facetiousness but fans will give him a much longer leash then game 2.

This is getting old. Nova would step on the field and the Boo's would start roaring in. Whether it was "for Flood" or NOva, it didn't matter. Maybe your intent was for Flood but how do you speak for the rest of the fans? Like you said, Flood gave Nova too much rope. So people started disliking Nova and blaming and booing him...

Agree. Not necessary to boo our team or coaches. Doesn't help anything. Now the officials during last year's Maryland game, that's another story...

Grown men cant handle boos? at times, he was awful and deserved the chorus but i think most was directed at flood for keeping with him

Novas comment are good, bad, and somewhat childish glad he reached out but denigrating the fans is every bit as classless as the guy booing the kid

Wow we've got a tough guy over here...

He was 18-22 when playing football here. Far from a "grown man" at those ages. Getting boo'd by your fans will get to you no matter how old you are. Players in professional sports get bothered by it. If you can't understand that then it sounds like someone has some growing up to do. Booing fans deserve to be denigrated for going against one of their own. Don't dish it if you can't handle it

How many interceptions did he throw against vaunted Kent State? 5? Or was it 6?

Why did Gary get booed again?

That was the same BS excuse they gave for booing Laviano. The kid gets the snot knocked out of him, goes out, comes back in, and gets boo'd. Just as a reminder this was his stat line that Maryland game....

21-33, 344 Yds, 4 TD, 1 Int.

How many QB's in the country would get boo'd at home with a line like that? Not many.

I never booed Nova or any other player. These are kids trying their best. That being said, he really did display a crappy, diva-like attitude for a lot of his time here and I was not a fan. Maybe he was immature, maybe it was lousy coaching, maybe it was the boos. Likely a combination of a lot of things but he really irked me.

His senior year was totally different. Sure, he played better, but he really seemed to grow up, which impressed me.

Everyone matures at their own pace. I hope Art is ahead of the curve and if Nova can assist him, good for both of them.

Lastly, I know it will pretty much fall on deaf ears, but please don’t boo these kids representing our school.

Damn I'm starting to be afraid of the mental fortitude of some of our players. Of course you don't boo performance at this level, but if a QB trots back onto the field after tossing four or five picks, damn right I will boo. And if he can't figure out whether it's for him or the coach who's sending him back out there, just focus on the game and don't worry about the white noise.

NOBODY is going to be booing Sitkowski in the second game. Promise.

Considering this same poster said he thinks Sit will get pulled in week 2 amongst multiple other anti QB comments tells you what you are dealing with. He’s the guy in the stands everyone wants to throw a Richie or a Louie at .

Newell you can’t say 95% of the fans were booing the coaching. That’s silly. Teel got booed too was that at Schiano? No way.

Good Ol I think you are right in one tiny sliver of your post. Schiano was ridiculed for playing 2 QBs and Flood was ridiculed for sticking with Gary too long. The pattern is our fans love to complain as if they know everything. They do not. I do not either but I’m smart enough to support the team I want to win. Such an obvious concept that some do not get.

Sure, Nova's ego demands that its all about him. Sure, people booed him instead of the decision to keep sending him out there and not play anyone else.. not give anyone else a chance.

I didn't boo anything but refs and dirty hits.. but damn, you all are making me want to have booed Nova.

October 27, 2012.. ranked, 7-0 Rutgers loses to Kent State, on Homecoming, on a 6 interception outing by Nova... but because our D kept us in the game, Flood never considers replacing Nova... easy decision, he said. BOOOOOOOO, I say. 6 INTS was a record for a Rutgers QB.. you know why? Because any decent coach would have sat that QBs *** long before it got that far. Flood did Nova no favors there.. its not like Nova could pull himself.

And when I see a QB CHOOSE to throw the ball while his back is about 6 inches from the ground, staring up at the sky.. and that's an easy INT? BOOOOOOOOO. Always hated Nova's game... never stepping into pressure to deliver a pass and get hit... BOOOOOOOOO.

I didn't boo then but he's a full-fledged adult now.. BOOOOOOO.

And now Nova want Sitkowski to think about getting booed?

BOOOOOOO, Nova, booo.

GS was criticized for playing Teel over Hart.. and going for the wildcat a bit too much. His conservatism was at the heart of his flipping around on QBs.

Do you have any GS era QBs complaining about being booed?

The Josh Newman video that goes along with that story says Sitkowski needs a season-long leesh. He's not a dog.. there is no "leesh". I say we need to plan to develop/use multiple QBs. Sitkowski can be given plenty of opportunity and NOT lose future opportunity because of a bad outing.. but the team deserves the option to go to a backup.. for anyone at any position.. including QB.

The last thing I want to see is some backup coming in for garbage time just to hand off the ball. Play and develop depth EVERYWHERE.

NAH ... OSU is a pushover ... I think people are aware there will be struggles ... if he is getting crushed or not effective, need to try a different QB that game ... think the 5 int games and still playing causes the boos.

Cool thanks for admitting it wasn't just Flood they were booing. No one is disputing he sucked at times and deserved to be yanked.
But Flood was responsible. A young QB makes mistakes.. as Nova did.. you don't leave him out there to further embarrass himself and the team. You take him out and coach him up.

And if he is a big baby about being taking out after a real bonehead move and cannot learn from the sidelines, why is he the QB?

Not saying Nova would have been but there were a few post-game interviews where it looked like Nova confused "not caring about" and "not dwelling upon" failures. We should have gotten the opportunity to see how Nova would have behaved had he been taken out. Again, not Nova's responsibility.. but Flood's.. he coddled Nova.

If Flood had taken Nova out when he should have you would not have heard boos. You would have heard cheers when the backup came out to encourage the team. If the backup did poorly, Nova could have been stuck back in and no one would boo. If the backup did well.. fans would have expected him to finish the game. Nova could have gotten the next start and no one would boo him when he took the field... not enough to hear, anyway.

Nova was the perfect QB to pull when he was shown to have a bad day... he had more bad days than good... here people said we'd either get "SuperNova" or "TurnNova". Flood did him a disservice... for all we know some bench time could have made him SuperNova more often.
