So glad we didn't hire Pruitt..

Winner: Mississippi State (3). Historically, the Bulldogs have been a lower-echelon SEC program. They rose to new heights under Dan Mullen—but after losing him to Florida the school decided it still wanted to dream big in football. When Joe Moorhead delivered a 14-12 record that would have been more than acceptable in earlier times, State pushed him out and tried to do better. That led to the hiring of Mike Leach, an iconoclast who has proven he can outperform historic expectations in tough jobs (Texas Tech, Washington State). Despite the difficulties getting a new program up and running amid a pandemic, Leach delivered the kind of debut that State fans dreamed of, upsetting reigning national champion LSU. The Dash is awaiting word on whether Mississippi State set an SEC record for fewest rushing yards in a win, chalking up a meager nine. The Bulldogs more than made up for it through the air, passing for an SEC record 623 yards.

Loser: Tennessee (4). There was another SEC school on the verge of hiring Leach, back in late 2017. But the Volunteers decided to fire athletic director John Currie before he could make the hire, replacing him with Phil Fulmer and getting a Traditional SEC Ball Coach in Jeremy Pruitt. Maybe Pruitt will work out (he’s 14-12 so far), but he certainly hasn’t delivered a win on par with what Leach did right out of the gate at Mississippi State. Pruitt’s highlight to date is beating Indiana by a point in the Gator Bowl.

I found out from a UK fan that Leach was going after the UK job before they hired Stoops. Thanks UK, you keep on being you.

Pump. The. Brakes. I'm as excited about the win and how our team looked as anyone. But that's ridiculous. I'll be plenty happy if we can maintain our current #14/#16 rankings at the end of the season.

Sure, but we still have arguably the most impressive win this very early season.

Why? This sounds like that old bs State mentality. No need in the fans pumping the brakes. Will we win them all? Probably not, but with the QB, RB, OL, WR & D we have, barring injury, or Covid, we'll be in every game we play this year. 17 that brake pumping bs. This ain't your Daddy's State team. More Cowbell...

I get the blue bloods passing on Leach. I even get UT being delusional enough to think they are a blue blood and passing on leach (although doing it at that point in the search is crazy to me). I can't imagine UK, who had the original success with the air raid and also is a school that is going to have to do something different to compete in football passing on Leach.

Damn. The wool is growing. If ever there was a year, this is it. The weirdness of COVID plays to our advantage. We can probably lose 2 games and still have a shot at the playoffs. When it all shakes out an all SEC schedule means our strength of schedule will be high. We already have a big win and we have plenty of more opportunities. Also, road games are way different this year without the crowds. Do we win at LSU if they have a full house? Who knows. We also have a good QB. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but if is ever going to happen this is it.
