248th in FG Pct.
337th in 3 pt Pct.
334th in Free Throw Pct.
207th in pts. scored

and 11th in Rebounds! I guess when you miss that much it helps the rebounding stats.

Wow.

One of the most startling stats that Caridi cited on 3 Guys months ago was how freshman production foreshadowed future play. Something like if a freshman over last five years averaged six or more points per game, he'd be a contributor during his time at WVU. If the player averaged fewer than six points per game, he remained at the sub-six figure for the duration of his scholarship.

I believe Tony was using this metric to hype up McBride and speak of his and Oscar's hopefully bright futures. What he unknowingly (I think) did, though, was highlight the coaching staff's inability to develop players.

Top 5 defense just means they played alot of bad offenses, and we run the shot clock down alot, when ole left cant go right so he can shoot, so scoring is down. Used to be talked about as best defensive team in the country, not long ago two OTHER teams talked about as best 2 in the conference, nevermind the country. Progression.....right????? Its how you get recruits, they progress under you and go pro or whatever else, progression here is where????? On either end of the floor

It is how you win in today's basketball.

Villanova proved to go against the norm but I doubt very many teams will be as efficient as them on offense

But if you look at the last 2 NC games you see elite defenses
18 Michigan
19 Virginia
19 Texas Tech

All three weren't blowing people out on the offensive end.
But all three would hold you under 60 points.

Leave the no defense basketball to Marshall.
Works in the NBA because you have those type of players but not in college.

If you don't play defense you don't get on the court. No matter how great you are as a scorer.

These scorers and shooters people are talking about did that in JUCO or high school.
McNeil has a great shot and could eventually become a volume shooter but he has to play defense first..

You have to play defense.
There may be 1-3 players in the Big 12 capable of putting up 20+ points every night.
Just isn't happening this year. Scoring in basketball is down
More teams are taking a defensive approach to the game.

So if Huggins throws a bunch of players who don't play defense but score.
WVU would have 1-2 wins in the conference

His style is allowing WVU to compete.

Who is going to put up 20+ points every night in the Big 12?

Like it already has been said...

If you like wide open basketball go watch Marshall.

Huggins is going to have his team organized around throwing numbers on the court and outplaying teams on the defensive end.

don't get me wrong you have to play some def but you will not win anything by being unable to score that is the problem with this team i think if it stays together over the next few years will be very good if they learn how to pass an score this team shoots more airballs then any team i have ever seen they don't help each other get open shots may be because of youth have no idea

you sure do talk about Marshall a lot. For someone from California who roots for the Longhorns, how have you even heard of Marshall, and even then, know what style of basketball they play. That would be like me living in southwest Michigan knowing all about the Stetson University football teams defensive packages. Long story short, have you ever asked Vernon to reinstate your posting privileges? That seems like something to try, as opposed to playing make believe Steer on a mostly anonymous message board.

I agree. Just as good example is someone attending a P 5 university knowing about a player at a little NAIA college a state or two away.

I don't know the source of these data but I was surprised about how low the rankings were. I figured the defense was pretty decent but never thought that in such critical areas we would be ranked so low. 334th in Free Throw Percent?????. 248th in FG percent? I would have expected to see us somewhere in the 100-150 range in these stats. I don't think I could even Name 333 teams in college basketball.

WVU is holding teams to under 40%

Plus they are a great rebounding team as well.

WVU has the chance to go on a good run.

.who are you talking about, coach? Do you follow recruiting closely? I do. There's only a couple big 2020 high school names left to commit. One may sign with Michigan in April and the other seems to be waiting to see how things play out with Texas. Who are the NAIA players? Are some looking to transfer to a P5 program? That's a huge step up.

You haven't been watching WVU games.
