The athletes are merely asking to have the same right as the engineering student to make money while a student. If an engineering student invents something and sells it, he stays on academic scholarship. He can make money off his social media accounts. But, athletes can't and that is why they are mad. They bring a lot more money into the school than the engineering department does.
Sure they do, but it’s very different. Athletes are recruited and a lot of recruiting is dirty. Paying them will only make it more so. There are no boosters, AAU shysters, or other slimy types involved with engineering students.

I've never said it's required. It's not required at all. You seem really confused by all this.

Let me see if I can break this down into simpler terms for you. Have you ever been to a restaurant and seen an entree listed as coming with certain sides, and so you ask the server if you can swap those for something else? Even though the menu says it comes with those certain sides, you are really free to pick and choose what works best for you. It's like that.
I called, as I thought, you are dead wrong. It is required with all residential housing. Idiot. You should be banned again.

It’s already “dirty” and it’s only ”dirty” because it’s idiotically against the rules. Allowing players to make money would make it less dirty. Stop trying to control people’s god given right to earn money for their work.

Everyone has the right to be wrong. Some abuse it. Congrats on that.

By the way, these players are NOT working. They’re playing amateur basketball in college. Should high school players get paid as well? Jr. high? Stupid, stupid argument.

worth - that is debatable, what it costs if you were to fund it on your own? that much and easily more at private schools.
It depends on what you choose to major in. If you choose a silly, non-marketable major, you might as well go to work somewhere straight out of HS.

Wow real clever. Show me how much money college athletes bring in for their schools vs. high school. Do high school athletes play in a tournament that generates billions in revenue? I’ll wait.

Plus, there’s that little thing about legally becoming an adult at age 18.

Kind of amazed at how much stupid you packed into one post.

Would say I’m amazed that so many here oppose common sense progress that not only helps the team you root for but also the sport you love but I’m not at all.

Would you watch UK if we had no future pros on the team?

Honestly I dont give a **** if colleges directly pay the players but players should be allowed to make every penny they can outside of school when playing college sports. It’s just basic fairness.

I understand that position, you just need to understand that players will then be bought on the open market. That isn't good for college basketball and I'm not sure its really good for the players either.

Yes? What is the relevance of this question?
Plenty. You aren't changing your viewing habits due to who is on the team. Therefore the players are interchangeable. You are watching the program. The program generates the revenue, not the players. The players already get more from the arrangement than anyone can show that they generate.

At this point you’re just trolling
Nope, I'm not. The point is you already said you would watch whether it was John Wall, Sheray Thomas or Richie Farmer playing. This is very different than pro sports. In pro sports, a large part of the audience watches for the players. College has more of an emotional connection with fans, we will watch regardless. It is the program generating the revenue. The players add little incrementally. We are providing the opportunity for them, not the other way around.

You’re apparently too dumb to realize fairness is the exact reason it isn’t allowed. I’ll let you figure out why.

According to SCOTUS, student-athletes do not perform work, they are not employees. If it is work to them, perhaps they should do something else.
The US Supreme Court ruled on this? When?

They aren’t even supposed to hear the case until June. Not sure how they could rule on it before....

There is no reason they shouldn't be able to make money off their name. Autographs, social media, ads, clothing, etc. Now, actual compensation for playing- nope.
disagree...this would attract players to the more populated cities generating higher revenue for the star players more fans...more autographs, bigger market for used car commercials and so on. creating an unfair advantage for these schools. this could hurt smaller town schools like UK in the long run.
