"Simpson, a freshman guard, was solid (10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, no turnovers) as well." Vs. Nebraska. How much better can be expected??
On the season Simpson is making 42% of twos and 23% of threes. Buie as a freshman shot 44% and 28%. Northwestern being bad necessitated a higher volume but it's not the worst comparison. The thing is we haven't seen Simpson drive much from the top of the key. His attacks at the basket are in transition or from the baseline.

Only 36% and 24% from 3
8-33 from 3
Out rebounded 36-25
14-14 FT!!!
Only 4 TOs!!

FTs and protecting the ball saved them. So huge when you're not shooting well
NW took a total of 90 shots from the field (57+33) while Indiana only managed 56 (45+11.) Amazing disparity in a game.

Northwestern is a small private university playing in the B1G Ten against large universities. They have high academic standards which makes recruiting more dificult. In many ways Northwestern is similar to Duke except they had Coack K .Collins should be the obvious Coach of the Year in the B1G Ten and maybe for the NCAA.Northwestern has two difference maker guards which are needed at crunch time and during tournament games.

NW reminds me of how we closed out last year. Gotta give credit to Buie. Guy was a chucker his whole career clanking shots all over the place but now he seems to have put it together.
NW is an easy team to root for except on March 5.
Buie was a chucker out of necessity for some bad teams (similar to Hyatt). If he takes only wide open threes near the line like Paul he is easily 50%

Simpson can't get into the paint from the top of the key because he gets taken off his line easily by stronger defenders. He can't get where he wants to go when defenders are in front of him and set.

It seems like that's been the case with him vs better comp because he takes that mid-range pullup a lot once he encounters resistance. That mid-range pull-up off the dribble is a tough shot.

He’s shooting 22.7% from 3 and his field goal percentage is 36.5% on the year. I’m high on him, but his shot can use improvement.
He has made some big shots this year (Indiana, and MSU) but please don’t bring up a Nebraska stat line

Jeeeeeeeesus! He's a freshman in the Big 10. Give it a rest Dickie V.
I literally said in my original comment that “I’m high on him, but his shot can use some improvement.”
Jesus Christ are we not allowed to point out the obvious anymore

Here’s the full comment. It’s RIGHT THERE!!!
The second sentence.
