You and I apparently have differing views of what 'played well' means in basketball. A 3 point game with 15 seconds remaining over a subpar Southland Conference team isn't playing well. 4 points the other way and we would have been saying that we played like crap. We played OK. We subbed too much (again) and went ice cold for long stretches in the second half. A W is a W, but Tulsa fans should expect more.
WE most certainly have a different aspect of playing well. Your focusing on the 3 point lead we had at the closing. Now that, I would like to be a little bigger but Northwestern State shot very well.
Tulsa was 27-58 for 46.6 from the field, 10-23 for 43.5 from 3 and 18-22 for 81.8 from the stripe. I dont care how you look at it, we shot over 4o percent from both the field and 3. That was playing well. We also scored 82 points. You also need to remember these guys did play Oklahoma tough until halfway through the second half.
Tonight Northwestern state was 30-64 for 46.9 from the field, 10-27 for 37 percent from 3 and 5-10 from the stripe. They were 3 percent better from the field than yesterday. They only shot 17 percent from 3 yesterday and took 10 less 3 point shots than today. If they shot the percentages they did tonight yesterday then that Oklahoma game might have looked real different.
Northwestern State played really good as well. I am happy with our guys play today overall. There were a few ball handling and dumb turnovers but nothing like in years past. Griffin and Pritchard are going to be great additions to this squad and should get a ton of playing time. Horne is Horne and still my favorite player by far. Dalger looked pretty good. Might need a haircut but he drove in that lane.
This was Game 1 and for Game 1, we did really well. Hopefully we can fix some of the missed assignment issues on defense and limit unnecessary turnovers and take it to Air Force on Saturday.
