More than likely if NW DEFERS, NU will run on first down. Example: Against MINN the Huskers ran the ball 13 times on first down, and only 3 other times on 2nd, 3rd and 4th down.Northwestern: 30
Nebraska: 14
We lose another coin toss. Northwestern refers.
First play of the series DR drops back 5 steps and is sacked.
I think we might in trouble here. It's just difficult for me to think that this coaching staff can fix anything in an offseason, let alone 1 week.Red 27 Purple 24
I will ever not pick the Huskers, but is my confidence high? No! Rhule can put all this bad mojo to rest by leading his team to a well-played victory and then declare he has no interest in leaving Nebraska. If this doesn't happen, I think the team is in trouble.
We have 5 separate issues to deal with this year.Red 27 Purple 24

In a way, Rhule is handling the QB situation the same way Solich did with Bobby Newcombe and Eric Crouch. It was almost like Frank played Newcombe a lot longer in games because he may have actually feared Eric coming in and sparking the team.NW 19--NU 13. unfortunate that many will be calling for Lateef to get a few Series to give the NW defense a change of pace and different look but MR will not budge.
What has Lateef done? He looked ok against gassed and inferior opponents who were dominated by our mediocre offensive line and 1st team offense. We do know without a doubt that he is undersized, needs more weight, and will likely get hurt in the first half he plays. I bet he looks a lot slower against a 1st team, big 10 defense, and with him playing in his first real game action. Just imagine the mental breakdown as we try to imagine who the 3rd string qb is...same thing happened under Rhule two years ago.In a way, Rhule is handling the QB situation the same way Solich did with Bobby Newcombe and Eric Crouch. I remember one game, maybe a Texas A & M?? (**I'd have to research**) where NU had about a 40-0 lead late in the game before a change at QB ever happened. I never respected Frank after that.
That doesn't mean that NU switching QB's in the flow of the game would ignite the offense, but it sure the hell is worth trying after a first half of 2 field goals, a scoreless 3rd quarter and an equally dismal 4th quarter offensively. Against MINN, Lateef may have gotten in the game and stunk it up, but isn't that what Dylan was doing anyway?
As a head coach, you can't always protect your starting QB, by the same token, you can't protect your backup either if they are inexperienced. If you wanna win the fuvking game, you use all possible weapons at your disposal.
**Edited** It couldn't have been the A&M game because I know they beat us in College Station when Newcombe was QB.
Jebus. After a long day of trying to find Argentinians I could bribe to vote the way we want them to vote … You come up with this, just as I’m trying to enjoy my Argentinian steak and edamame? Dude!28 Northwestern

He can scramble. When your O-Line sucks as bad as ours does, a mobile QB will keep a blitz in check. What has Lateef done? No way is there enough money to fire himWill Northwestern get two coaches fired in one season? I don’t think Rhule gets fired but it marks the beginning of the end for him here if he loses.
Under Rhule, NU is 1-9 when going for win number 6. Fail today, and the Huskers then get both USC and UCLA coming off bye weeks to prepare for us. It's not going to get any easier. This game will tell us a lot. If we lose this we might not win another one this year. UCLA is no longer a guaranteed win either. Maybe they will spin it as Rhule being distracted by the PSU job but this happened last year going 1-5. it’s starting to become a pattern that I don’t think Rhule knows how to fix.
I’m conflicted because if we do win out he probably leaves for PSU. If we go 0-5 we probably keep him and repeat this same scenario next year with a much harder schedule.
