Northwestern Game is at 9pm???? Why

Or not really paying attention ... since all our other weeknight games are at 7.
Many will do just that as they attend the members only Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club meeting at 7 p.m at HPSS.then head over for MBB at the RAC at 9 p.m.. $$$$
All game times are set for one reason and one reason only - TV ratings.
For Tuesday, February 13th
ESPN selected the MSU at Minnesota game for a 9PM start - (back in September that made sense as it figured to be a great game for ESPN).
Next, BTN has 2 slots - BTN elected to go with Maryland at Nebraska as the 7PM game and Northwestern at Rutgers as the 9PM game.
I think every year in the B1G Rutgers has played one game at 9pm and yes its all about television scheduling /ratings.
BTN wants this game to go directly against the olympics
College football games are played weeknights all throughout the season. Many start at 7 pm, some will start at 8. A college FB game can take 31/2 to 4 hrs to play which means a 7pm start ends between 10:30 and 11 pm. An 8 pm start ends even later. A college bball game starts at 9 is over by 11pm. No real difference except the bball game involves far fewer players and spectators.
people complaining that they could not make a 7PM game should love the 9PM start time...expect less than 4k in the building
I think the point is that if you have two games to show on a particular night and one is in an east coast time venue and the other is a central zone venue you give the 7pm start time for the east coast home team and the 9am to the central time zone home team. The only possible reason to reverse it would be if you thought Northwestern bring a lot of Chicago viewers who will not watch at 6 but will watch at 8pm.
Or the reality that a 7:00 start is difficult for many due to rush hour or that with a 9:00 start you are probably getting home past midnight.
That's why for three decades most RU starts during the week were for 7:30. We got the B1G and it is great for TV but with that we have to stop worrying about attendance. It is what it is.
Hope no one is suggesting we go back to the days when our games were rarely on TV, including NJ’s public TV station.
A valid interpretation i guess, but he did not say an east coast team should not have a 9pm start when a central time team can take it's place. He simply said an east coast team should not have a 9pm start.
Don't forget that almost every night game on NJPTV tipped off at 8pm, When Rutgers wanted to move to 7:30pm, NJPTV/ NJN said they would break away at 7:57 for 3 minutes to show the lottery drawings, simply not showing the entire game.

If you all recall, we had multiple 9 pm games during Mike’s last couple of years.
There were also occasional 9 pm and even the rare 9:30 game 10-15 years ago.
