Much respect for Watauga. They are 3-1, however the 3 wins came against teams
that were combined 0-7. They did play well against ACR for 2 quarters but it takes
all 4 to beat an ACR. I think Watauga will have to play very smart football for 4 quarters
to have a chance.
I agree. Too many mental mistakes against Reynolds. The Rockets do have a better team than freedom though, from a holistic perspective anyways. Watauga did force some turnovers but freedom runs the ball much more efficiently than reynolds, that'll be what decides the game. Should be interesting from here on out. I've been happy that no major injures have occurred thus far.

Doss, how is the Watauga kid that went down with the leg injury late in the game?

I honestly haven't heard any updates. I talk with a lady that I'm close with who works at JCC, she's always got the latest updates, but I haven't had the opportunity to speak with her since the game.

Losing to Reynolds is nothing to really hang your head about. They scrimmaged South so I got to see them earlier. It wasn't pretty. That QB is the real deal. I don't know how he did against yall Doss but he can flat out play. They have a lot of talent at Reynolds this year.

I thought Hickory would really struggle. New coach, new system, and minus several key players.
The biggest loss for Hickory was the transfer last year of L. Dickerson, followed by QB Crawford
and FB/LB Nick Dumaine to Freedom. Bring those 3 back to Hickory and you have a different team.
Was told Hickory will be dominant next season. Would love to go watch

I wouldn't be surprised if Watauga's homecoming game isn't cancelled tonight. It's raining hard enough to turn my house into the next Arc.

South and Hibriten was a very good game to watch. Exciting and a very well coached game both ways. Hibriten with the 1st Half turnovers was a killer. Both teams moved the ball well all night long from about 30-30. But when South took the lead with 8 minutes or so to go the defense really stood up to the challenge. Didn't allow another first down all night except for a roughing the punter penalty. Hibriten is a very good team and like I said, it was a very good game to watch.

The Hib/South game is a good indicator to how the Freedom/South game will go. Should be a good rumble of a game with a good gate for either school at their location. I see Freedom taking it but it won't be easy for them against Hibritien an South. Very impressive O an D line for South.

I completely disagree. Freedom's offensive will be more dominant than anything South will see all season. I would say the Hibriten/South game is a better indication of how the Watauga/South game will go, granted Watauga can make it to the end of the season with a full roster. They've lost 8 starters in like 2 1/2 weeks.

Yep Emmons isn't going to Alabama because he is a decent high school player.

Yeah the South/Hibriten game is a game most likely for 2 of the 3 spots from 2-4 in the conference. Freedom is the clear favorite in every game they play by double digits I would say. South, Hibriten, and Watauga are the 2-4 teams in the conference. Where they will finish is yet to be determined but they are all pretty good teams who will all play competitive games with each other.

The moderators got the Watauga score wrong. It says FTF won 34-0. Watauga actually won this contest 54-0.

Obviously Watuaga and Freedom is the big conference game this week. Freedom made Hickory look like a middle school team. 76-20 was the final with Emmons only having 7 carries. So it wasn't his show. They intercepted 7...yes 7 passes on the night. So we'll see how Watauga can hang. I've always thought Freedom was the clear favorite with WHS, South, and Hibriten being the next 3. I think now Freedom is still the favorite with WHS and South being the next two. Being a South guy and knowing our guys play them next week I'm eager to see how Watuaga stacks up with them.

Can't believe hickory is that bad.

Watauga and SC both played with freedom last year I expect the same this year. Close games with Freedom coming out on top.

I actually traveled to Morganton for the Freedom/Watauga game last year and mental mistakes killed the Pioneers. Freedom also played excellent defense are we very fast. I thought our defense did a great job of containing the run enough to at least be in the game, had it not been for mental mistakes on offense of course.

Should be an interested game. I believe they're finally gonna be able to play without it raining lol.

I can't remember Hickory ever being this bad. Hope things can improve
for them next season. We are looking very good against poor competition.
The next couple of weeks should tell us more. We cannot let Watauga or
South Caldwell play their style of football or things could be interesting.

South may keep the game from being a blowout due to their style of play, but the "game" really won't be that close, BJ will run all over them, South could not handle Hibritens speed, so i know they can't touch Freedom. That said, I hate to see what Freedom will do to Hibriten....but it will be fun to watch BJ again.

Also the score seemed more like what the Hickory Girls BBall coach would do. LOL

But remember it's the little things in football, then the saying goes turnovers will kill you. That is what happen with Hibriten vs South. I thought Hibriten should have had a larger lead with South before those guys really got the run game going with Wright playing in the second half and leading the way for #37 to get to rumbling. Turnovers hurt Hibriten in the game.

I am looking forward to seeing Dickerson vs Freedom's DE's and for one Hawkins. I see Emmons running wild too. If Freedom takes care of the football and the defense shows up ready, Discipline, then yes speed kills. Don't sleep on Cuthbertson.

Well that's why we play the games. On paper, Watauga and South shouldn't be close with Freedom but the flow of the game will dictate how close or not close it should be. South doesn't have a ton of speed and they never do. It's all about trying to make them earn it like they did last year. Emmons had one of his worst games if not his worst against South last year. His worst being around 180 yards but still lol...man he is a good RB. The key is the QB. It's not just Emmons, the QB is a player too so you have to watch out for him while focusing on a top tier RB. Just makes it a little too hard unless your defense is ultra talented and in this conference I don't think we have that.

Cpark171, I agree with you, that's why you play the game. Like I said it's the little things, then turnovers. We have already seen that with Hibriten. With the way how South plays, tough physical group. I like what Coach Carter has done and continues to do. Nothing fancy, they line up and come at you, line up and stop us. I like South's TE. Big, physical in the run game, and the guy has hands. He made some good catches vs Hibriten.

Patsfball, look at your team, you know this stuff and I have agreed with you about things on the other site about Freedom. The Pats are loaded, people think it is just a one man show, but talent is stocked all over the roster. And Emmons is a special talent no doubt. I remember him going 80 yards down the sideline in middle school at QB in a tight game that still hurts a guy that I know to this day. Cuthbertson gets slept on, he can tout it too.

Agree with you, lots of talent again this year. This program has been loaded year
after year for the past six years. The talent has made up for all the coaching
changes over the last several years. I really think Freedom has 1 or 2 ships if Mike
Helms was still here. I say this because the coaches/system would have stayed
the same with no extra learning curve. That is history, so we must look at
what we have now and hope for the best.
