Lots of posters on here supporting Shelby, Lincolnton, Walkertown in 3A, but literally no commentary about the West's #1 seed, North Stanley. What do we know about them? Top performers? Run heavy or pass heavy? Key wins and accomplishments during the season? Are they a legitimate threat to take the regional crown?

NS seems to have become the "elite" program in their county now that Albermarle's dynasty is no more. It looks like they (Alb.) have really fallen off since their great teams of the early 2000's. What has caused this big shift in power down there?

First and most importantly…North Stanly 👀…is the correct spelling. There is no “e” in Stanly. 👍

I’ve got a buddy that’s very close to their program and …yes…the Comets are very confident. They’re loaded with athletes.

I’d have to say that overall team speed is their top attribute along with many others.

They can absolutely fly!

We’ll see.

Last year, I watched the West Davidson at North Stanly game on NFHS in which West Davidson came from behind to win in the 4th quarter. Both looked to play basic football and looked similar to each other.

Last night, I watched some of the North Stanley-Union Academy game played this October. North won easily, but their offense didn’t look like what it did last season. Actually thought their style of offense looked a lot like us with a mobile quarterback.

Last weekend, a Mountain Heritage poster wrote that Shelby would beat Hendersonville by 28 points plus, that Hendersonville’s defense was abysmal and so is Mountain Heritage. Frankly, I worry about our defense, too.

This sounds overly cautious, but to me, a new season begins Friday, and since it’s one-and-done, most of the competition will be playing with an increased motivation. Many of them have improved their game by looking back at past mistakes. Sure would be less stressful if we could overlook a few of these team but we can’t afford to.

Several years back they were supposedly going to close Albemarle and opened things up for kids to move to other schools. North, West and South all got some good players and increase in kids. Albemarle was stuck with the local kids that could not move or get the transportation. Then they decided to keep Albemarle open and that was one of the big factors in their downfall. Lower student body count to put on the field.

I watched a North STANLY (Shut up Creek) game the other night on NFHS

Now they were playing some home school looking team but they spread you out, fast receivers, decent sized runningback and a Shifty QB that reminds me a bit of L-towns, but not quite as good

What they dont have is good lines, that will be their downfall, and an overall weak schedule.. They sure look the part though so teams better throw a little respect on em

I was giggling this morning when I hit the post button. I knew your lopped earred arse would crawl out from under your rock!😂

Just to add a little more…the Comets appear to have really good special teams play…all phases.

I think they also lead the state in team interceptions at 21. Heck…one kid has 9 interceptions already.

We’ll see! Brother. 😉

These teams we play that have size will see how Cramer and Burns attacked the center of our line with much success and there isn’t any reason they shouldn’t do the same, unless they can have success getting around the corners or passing.

There are ways to shore up defenses and I’m hoping we can do that. Feel like we have the staff and players who can make the adjustments.

Just got back from my walking routine, which goes by the stadium. It was lit up so I stopped and watched for a minute. The coaches were working with the team on defensive strategies then. Good luck, guys.

North has a really good team this year how good I am not sure because our conference doesn't really have that many good teams in it. The best team we played this year was Community School of Davidson in the 1st game of the year. We won by 3 and they are a decent team not as good as Shelby/Lincolton I'm sure. We have alot of speed on this team this year and pretty good size upfront as well. One thing that hurt us last year in the playoffs was team discipline. We had like 2 tds called back against West Davidson that cost us that game and going further in the playoffs. So I hope they show more team discipline this year. We run a 2 quarterback system both can make good passes but one has speed and can run. Our starting rb is just a sophomore and is fast and has good size. When it comes to the special teams we have a kicker that is really good and have a couple of returners who can get up the field quick. I think we have averaged atleast one td on kickoff/punt returns every game this season.

Hope to visit you guys in a couple weeks. We’ll have a tougher game next week than you all. Mountain Heritage will be out for revenge next week.

NSCometFan1975, thanks for the update on your team. Congratulations on the #1 spot. Long as you win through the regionals you play at home.

Hope the Comets are bringing in good crowds. If we can make it that far, we’ll be down to see you. NC 73 begins/ends on the east side of town, here. I’m thinking it’ll get us at least somewhere close.

That poster is an idiot. Doesn't understand how hard MH is to stop. You guys played them last year right? They're tough.
