Career politicians suck! Every damn one. Were once again going to be forced to vote for worthless *** President. The two party system is dead.

^^^Truth^^^ That was a major part of the appeal of electing Trump...Founding Fathers didn’t intend for politics to be a profession.

True. Party politics though has always been a matter of paying attention to the core voters. The Democratic base is more liberal than they are progressive. The Republican base is obviously more conservative (usually divided among social conservatives, national defense conservatives, and economic/business folks).

Agreed. Biden had to move left to get votes in the party primaries. The Democrats have moved further to the left in the past four years thanks to Sanders & Warren.

He was fortunate that his main contender was Sanders who is too much of an outsider and doesn't play well with the other Democratic candidates.

I used to feel this way but the last 3+ years have proven to me that experience and competence matter. I don't love career politicians but if you give me the choice between someone who's been in office for 30 years and someone who has no experience in governance at any level... I'll take the career person all day long and twice on Sunday.

Though I'm starting to think there needs to be some sort of career progression people who want to go into politics are required to follow... i.e., you have to hold local office before you can run for the state legislature. You have to have been a state legislator before you can run for higher state office (governor, etc...) or a federal position (congress). You have to have been elected to congress or as a state governor before you can run for president. Plus... two term term-limits on all positions. That would at least prevent a person from holding one office for an extended period of time.

Agreed. Biden does not become presumptive Democratic nominee without the help of the African-American vote.

Trump is further right economically and more authoritarian than both, but these morons that buy into the "he's a socialist" bogey man scare tactics either don't know how how to define socialism, don't realize America has embraced many elements of it over time, or are comparing Biden against some free market / low government standard that hasn't existed in the United States for at least 100 years, if ever.

Hell, Trump is pushing EOs to fix drug prices right now. Cry about socialism there. These folks don't pay attention or only care about it when a democrat tries the same thing. Hypocrites or morons. One of the two.

Trump is not very far right at all. He basically doesn't have an ideology beyond a view on trade that is somewhat mercantilist I guess and related to that, that a country should look out for its citizens first, which I think is what drives his anti-illegal immigration position. Even those issues don't neatly align on our left/right spectrum, but outside of that, he's really all over the map. He doesn't have any concern about the size of government (either as a matter of spending or scope) which is leftist, he's in favor of a strong military (which is right at the moment), he's wants to favor real estate investment (which is a personal quirk based on his experience, not a lef/right issue). His administration does well on some issues important to the right b/c of who his administration is staffed with, but his rhetoric makes it clear he doesn't give those issues a lot of thought one way or another (i.e., free speech, free exercise, judges, regulation roll back etc.), and certainly on the whole has acted as a pretty mainstream, right administration, but he himself is a good bit left of his administration on some issues, a good big right on the others, and just plain uninterested in a lot of issues historically and currently important to the left and right.

Biden isn't a socialist. But everyone who has a hand in his campaign (AOC, Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders) are socialists. Just look at the policies he's rolled out in the last few months. That ain't exactly coming from Joe Manchin.

Biden isn't quite a socialist, but he was reasonably left as a senator and moved left over the course of his time in the senate. Maybe not as much as the party did, but a good bit. And the things that kept him from being rated as a liberal senator are generally social issues that he has since gone all in on with the left, although he also pushed a balanced budget amendment in the 90's.

^^^This. Trump's presidency would be much more effective if he had someone like Dick Cheney as his vice president.

This keeps getting repeated like it's the gospel. If Biden gets elected you should expect Biden to be President. It's about time we saw his VP pick, however, because Biden IS 78 years old.
I don't know. Like Cochran, Biden will be in office as long as there can be any pretense that he is not mentally incompetent. And I certainly am not expecting/predicting that Biden won't make it through a full four year term. But Cochran had the advantage of some long term staffers that were all operating from the same playbook. Biden is going to have a new staff, certainly with some lifers on there, but it seems a lot more likely that some of the new people will buck when the long term staffers make some decisions that they don't like.
