UNC** just keeps dousing the fire with gasoline. NOBODY wants to see them get away with this except the baby blue crowd and the NCAA. The media are going to roast them both, essentially shaming the NCAA into doing their jobs. Wouldn't be shocked if public perception brought Congress back around.
The men's basketball program was recently cleaned with bleach, so Bubba doesn't believe further investigation into men's basketball is needed.

Ok Bob, this is all fun and all, but let's cut to the chase. You don't have to even answer out loud, or even type it in the reply for that matter.
Here's the deal. There's very strict rules about keeping a star athlete eligible. Academics are one of those areas in which things should be on the up and up. If a player is in a "class" where he really doesn't have to do anything to get an A, which is used purposely to maintain an eligible gpa, REGARDLESS of who set it up or who is in the class, than it is cheating. It's breaking the rules. It is an athlete getting special attention in order to play whichever sport he/she plays.
Now, are there courses players take at all colleges that are easier than most college classes? Of course there probably is. Even duke has different standards for athletes to get into school and maintain eligibility. That's a part of life. All schools operate under those same circumstances.
But when you go the step further and make classes that aren't real classes and athletes are not only in them, a good amount of athletes are in them, then that's where you have obviously and purposely broken the rules.
You know as well as I do that that's not ok. It's wrong. If I found out kentucky did that I'd be pissed. I'd still be a Kentucky fan but I'd be pissed. It's why it's COLLEGE BASKETBALL. It's the other end of the deal. COLLEGE. If unc wants to go play in a pro-Am league, go do it! Nobody is stopping you. But when you cheat in order to get a player to come to your school knowing that the player won't have to do as much as he might at another school, then that's wrong and it's wrong to the kid. I'm 35 years old now and I made a lot of stupid decisions when I was a kid. I didn't need any extra help making bad decisions. And someone pushing me into a class that gives me ZERO education is pretty high up there as far as bad decisions go.
I'll get off of my soap box but something tells me I really don't have to explain this stuff to you. You get it. You know the deal just like O.J. and the "if the glove don't fit..." defense. You know unc cheated to ensure athletes were eligible and stayed on the court or the playing field. Of course you know that. It makes $$ and perfect sense. So spare me with the denial. Unc cheated and all the conjuncture and dodging questions is just a waste of time. Just deal with the criticism as you all so much deserve, be a man, own up to it and move on.
Bubba is just saying, "see, I told you it's just that damn women's basketball team. The men have done nothing wrong".
I agree with Forde on this one. Sounds like UNC trying to avoid giving their response within the required 90 days, to delay things enough to prevent the NCAA from ruling in time to hit the current men's basketball season.
Of course sacrificing women's basketball and men's soccer to accomplish this is par for the course for UNC.
If I was the NCAA I'd require UNC to go ahead with their response to the original charges by the required date and then compel UNC to follow up with these additional findings at a later date.
At some point the NCAA needs to stop allowing UNC to drive this train wreck and take over, else BOTH these institutions are going to go down the toilet.

What difference does it make? The classes were fake and mbb players were the main beneficiaries. They cheated and they're gonna get punished.

UNC has some leverage here. They had/have enough scandals going on they can slowly release new details every few months and never have to face penalties. Just keep pushing back the punishment date, and eventually the NCAA will be gone by the time they finish releasing new details.
The irony here is the NCAA can't stop the most detrimental reality for UNC of all. They have lost all control of their state, their coaches are no longer the legends in state, and even their darling ESPN is more in the tank for the team overtaking them than they ever were for UNC. North Carolina is Duke country now. UNC is the past.
Jordan's legacy is slowly creeping past. The next 10 years will have Jordan being mentioned with early morning coffee, not the AAU circuit. When you cheat to win like UNC has done for that long, you will not sustain greatness forever.

One thing I do like about delaying the response is that it can only help UK with Sacha Killeya-Jones, who wants to sign in November.

The longer this draws out it will hurt UNC*** men's basketball on recruiting. I hope it affects the team this year and they lose a lot of games.

UNC is going all in on throwing everything else under the bus to try and save MBB. These latest shenanigans are nothing more than an attempt to find another scapegoat inside their institution to blame it all on. As if we are stupid enough to believe this entire scam was concocted for the benefit of women's basketball and soccer.
Clearly UNC set out 30 years ago to devise a cheating scheme to keep women's basketball and soccer players eligible. You know, the big revenue sports.

Makes one wonder just what else UNC is willing to sacrifice to protect the basketball program. So far they have willingly put it's academic reputation in jeapordy the womens basketball team, the womens soccer team, the baseball team, and the football team.
Maybe you prefer aberrant, irregular or abnormal. Where did they name any wbb players, football players or any other athletes? By your logic, not a single athlete will be found guilty of cheating.
I think irregular is the correct term...most likely the NCAA agrees since they didn't change UNC with academic fraud.
I've only ever argued about men's basketball. I have said over and over again that none of the players were ineligible and the NOA finally came out and I think it backs up my assertion (considering there are no men's basketball players who are mentioned by the NCAA as participating while being ineligible, unlike other NOAs which have asserted this). If you want to make that leap about other programs then it's on you.
The fact that this broke on Carolina's Scout.com site should tell everyone what's going on here.
This is about delaying NCAA action to protect this year's basketball team. The Carolina press release all but admitted this. They made sure to specifically state:
"NCAA infractions procedures require that if this new information is deemed to be a Level I or Level II violation, the existing notice of allegations must be amended to include it even though they are unrelated to the prior allegations." [emphasis added]
Anytime a new violation is submitted, the NCAA is obligated to review it to see if it is a Level I or Level II violation. This stops the clock on when UNC has to submit their response to the NOA, until the NCAA can complete their review. So any small infraction delays things a couple of weeks, and if these are more serious, delays things even further. The goal is to push the NCAA response out past the tournament.
What's laughable is the lengths to which UNC holds themselves up as both having the highest standards and also a commitment to excellence in the same press release. It boggles my mind how Bubba Cunningham could say this with a straight face:

For as many "investigations" as UNC has conducted the past few years, how is it possible that an organization committed to excellence missed these? Wainstein included several emails related to men's soccer issues, so it's not like there was no indication something might be fishy there too.
Secondly, if this was uncovered within the past couple of weeks as part of due diligence work, then how can he say that it was compliance procedures that detected the potential violations and that the coaching staff came forward to report them? If this was occurring over the past two years, that tells me the exact opposite occurred. The compliance procedures failed to detect these (or didn't seek to) and the coaches didn't come forward. Does finding a two year old issue during document preparation really qualify as catching it during normal procedures or the coaching staff coming forward to report it? It's amazing that they'd think we're that obtuse. Or maybe they just think that about UNC fans and that they won't see through this.
This is UNC trying to save this year's MBB team. Nothing more, nothing less. And the mindset of the UNC administration is both fascinating and disgusting.

Decades of cheating, rosters full of AFAM majors, and the most egregious cheating scandal in NCAA history. You can't compare the UNC-Cheat NOA with any others. It's incomparable.
