The word is UofL has spent 18 million and has 7 million left in the bank.
It was reported they spent $9 million on Bidunga and Shelstad during the first week of the transfer portal window. The rest of their roster, including a five start HSer, Knox, and the others amounts to only $9 million?

Not sure what this is supposed to mean but we’ll still need another guy to be great and if Pope is smart enough to know it the boosters will be smart enough to give him the bargaining power. Don’t go thinking they’ll be keen on throwing their own investment down the toilet a second year in a row.
What are you even talking about? With Momcilovic this is one of the 10-12 best rosters in the country. We won't need or go after another "great" player

Do we really have to pay $4mil for this guy? I havent kept up on what we have to pay out. But saw that number in passing.

My worry is that this money just doesnt grow on trees. Even $2mil for a 3pt specialist on a team thats merely decent? Idk. Popes off season has been decent, but he still has far more to show before I feel like emptying Fort Knox for him. These players are not giving near an ROI for what they cost, so its not like this $4mil will neccesarily be there next year, or in 5 years from now.

Why are these guys so afraid to say Milan to Kentucky. Not something Vague like rumored leader, or a new team has jumped out in front. Milan will be committing to Kentucky and it has been known since about 1:30 yesterday. (Been the leader for a while now but finalized negotiations yesterday)

I just laugh at how they continually use click bait titles instead of just stating what actually is. The worst part is people keep clicking on them, wondering well what “if” etc. Milan will be a Cat, now we need to put in the off season work and November can’t come see on enough!

Yup, maybe we find another bench shooter but he won't fit into "great" other than us being very lucky.

There isn't a "stud" to be had seemingly and if there is they probably don't want to hang out on the bench waiting for the chance to stave off an emergency situation.

If that’s true, then why not announce? I’m guessing that would be because he hasn’t officially signed, but if they have agreed on terms, then why hasn’t he signed?

I'm thinking of starting my own Kentucky X account and pretend I know inside information. I'll just say things like "sources close to the staff are saying", " I've been told", " things are trending" and "hearing a lot of buzz". I won't have any actual information, but people will love it and won't even care if it's completely made up...apparently.

Malachi will be playing against one of the most physical players in college basketball every day in pick-up, practice, and workouts, Franck Kepnang. That should help MM tremendously in getting used to physicality. I think this gets overlooked or not factored in.
Great point.

It's one that I actually hadn't thought about, so good catch. I'd have to say it can do nothing but help Moreno to play against the big men he is going to face this year. Moreno's physicality ( or lack of it, although he was but a freshman thrust suddenly into a starting role... very prematurely) was the main knock on him from last year.

Nothing that an off season of workouts and weight room conditioning cannot address. And add in the fact big Franck is an ideal practice team challenge for him, he's going to improve this year.

The question will be : how much ?

Maybe, by then end of it all, we will all say "damn, big Franck really did help Moreno to vastly improve his play."

It could be another big - but overlooked - reason to be more optimistic, rather than not, heading into the season.

Are you kidding? Momcilovic was one of the highest rated in the portal BEFORE it emptied out, and he’s literally the difference between a first round exit and a possible deep run. You don’t think that’s worth $4 mil in publicity alone? It could save Pope’s job.

Man thinking this guy is prime LeBron is going to have a lot of people disappointed. He's a good player. He's also been in college this long for a reason. Never heard of him until Pope whiffed on everybody. Don't even remember him from the butt whooping iowa state put on UK.

In all hes not a player that makes or breaks a season. He's not a Tyran Stokes. I'm talking about basketball skills. Not what y'all think of character. He's a slow unathletic guy that can shoot. And not the Larry bird type. The four years in college for a reason type.

We'd be willing to drop a 4 million dollar bag on mom but not other players?? Pope is so fckn odd.

$4mil would just be a losing non-serious offer.

Jesus. Idk thats not worth it. Certainly not with a very mid coach at the moment. Idk where exactly this money is coming from.. but whether its a business, or something within the school, either way it would be better served to be held onto a little bit. Im tryingnto give Pope a bit of a chance snd not **** on him, but he in no way deserves to be spending $4mil on 3rd option type players. You earn that, and that certainly wasnt earned last season.

We dont know all the NIL details yet, but I dont believe this money is infinite. Whoever gave this $4mil, it wont always be there. This move sort of feels like were building a bridge for Pope when he doesnt exactly have the means to get across it. We will see.

Im not keen on spending $4mil to save someone's job when it maybe shouldnt be saved at all.

While he looks better than I thought. He was just a projected 2nd round pick. I dont think thats worth 1-year/$4mil when youre likely not going to contend for a Final 4 anyways.

So you’d rather the team just straight suck so there is justification for firing Pope?

I was never more than a so so player. My uncle was good enough to play D1. He got up a game one day for money and one of his players couldn't make it, so he asked me to go at the last minute. I was younger and smaller than everyone, so I was afraid to shoot. I just wanted to pass tHe ball every time I got it. I noticed my uNcle was having the worst game I ever saw him have. He and his teammates starting screaming aT me to shoot the ball. I got lucky and hit a few in a row, so the other team started guarding me. I never shot it again, but they were at least guarding me. All of a sudden, my uncle started playing his usual great game.
I suspect Mom will make a lot more difference than me, but if he can just make someone guard him, he can make a huge difference, especially with this team.

The agreed upon figures from what I’ve heard is 7.65 million. I’m fine with it because we finally got the job done, other teams have been over paying all portal and we sat back on some we could have gone after. Glad to see us going for the big splash for once. I’d be willing to bet this seasons roster will have multiple first round selections in the 2027 Draft, my guess is 3 first rounders and 2 second rounders. (The second rounders may come back another year)

It’s sad but this is exactly what several here would rather happen. Problem is it’s no guarantee a new coach comes in and wins at an acceptable level either. We could easily hire someone who flops and we’d be no better off, so why not assemble the best team possible and compete instead of tanking. Let the course play out as it will and in due time Popes time here will be done. In the meantime we don’t need to suck just for the sake of sucking and hoping we get the right hire. That’s my two cents.

Since you seem to know so much why hasn't he committed?

UL reportedly paid Bidunga $5 million. What do you think St John’s paid for Tounde?

He will be a good addition to any team. Obviously people want him. But I think the price is because he's one of the only options available. Smart way to go about your last year of college. Entertaining the draft then pulling out at the last second. Pretty smart on his part.

But say he was the first player we signed a couple months ago. He'd be looked at different. We are just in desperation mode as bad as many want to act like we aren't.

In other words I feel like BBN is trying their hardest to make him out to be the next Larry Bird when really he was unheard of before we whiffed on Stokes. Desperate times.

Even the other teams that want him probably aren't looking at him as a make or break type of player.

That would seemingly eclipse any NIL payment for a portal player by about $2 million.
