Basch said Sonny “decommitted,” while Mineo said Brands pulled the offer for reasons that don’t really add up. So which is it?

Actually it was the opposite. But it was smart by Sonny to post . This all happened yesterday
So, let's review: Bassett wanted to go to Iowa in the summer to train but Brands wouldn't let/pay him. He tells the Bassetts they must pay their way. Bassett decommits. Sonny doesn't go to Iowa to train, so Brands pulls his offer. Do the Brands expect Sonny to pay his own way to go to Iowa and train? It seems that way. I don't know about Sonny's family's finances, but expecting recruits to pay for cross country trips is not cool and not a great recruiting look.
When PSU decided to take Nevills, Cael drove to Thomas Haines' house to explain why Haines needed to go elsewhere Cael did not feel the need to publicize anything. With the decision to not take Marsteller Cael and PSU let it appear as though Chance had a change of heart. When PSU went with Beard over Hoffman and the Hoffman family went public with some anger, PSU and Cael just stayed quiet and allowed them to vent.
Just my opinion, but Iowa looks much better if the story is allowed to be the kid changed his mind. Giving the "rescinded offer" to Mineto after the kid's post paints the Brands with an ugly color that hints of some bitterness.

That's not true ( I believe that's what he says for all good NJ guys) he will visit Lehigh soon. He's gonna take some visits. With Ashnault at Rutgers now he will definitely look there.
Wow, I just saw this. Shane usually does a good job on broadcasts. But I strongly disagree with him on this. It may be years of being a ref, where we are reminded every year that we call things as they are in the rule book, and not as fans (or refs) may wish the rules to be. Knox should NEVER have been allowed to compete in the NJ States his senior year, and subsequently, his "title" from that tournament has been revoked. So what Shane may wish Knox accomplished is immaterial.
I agree. Part of being a competitive athlete is conducting yourself in a manner that does not run you afoul of the governing authorities of your sport. The judge who issued the ruling allowing Anthony to compete at the state tournament deserves much criticism. Anthony's father has much blame also as he was the one who instigated the altercation. I believe the adults around Anthony did him a disservice by not accepting his suspension from the state tournament. It was a great opportunity for Anthony to understand that actions have consequences. Instead, the adults around him "played the system" and got Anthony into the state tournament. In my mind, it would have been much better for Anthony to have three state titles in three tries rather than having his fourth title rescinded. It also seems unfair to the other wrestlers in his weight at the state tournament whose placing or lack of placing was affected by Anthony's participation. Anthony obviously is responsible for his actions, but I feel it is primarily the adults in his life who failed him in this matter.
Yeah, a shortsighted and emotional reaction by Sparks. I'm confident he'll get straightened out come broadcast time. Unless he wants to consistently include a qualifier to his Knox fanboydom by saying something like, "Of course, the network does not condone wrestlers committing violence in the stands."
What if Cocaine Shane says: "Knox is a 4x NJ state champ, 3x in wrestling, 1x in bleacher fighting"?
Other than that, regrettable. In a sense worse than Knox going into the stands, because Sparks is a fully grown adult with children, and has months to think about publicly and professionally condoning Knox's criminal act.
If he doesn't re-think this, hopefully his BTN bosses order him to.

He claimed self-defense and a judge stayed his disqualification and allowed him to compete. Unfortunately for Anthony there was a video that clearly showed Anthony willfully running into the stands and punching a kid in the face. He was retroactively disqualified and his 4th state championship erased.
I guarantee if Shane is corrected on air.....even the Knox family will BEG Shane to never say it again. Problem solved

I really like Shane, but I think he’s wrong on this one. As much as it annoys me and we all know it was an injustice, it would be like an announcer saying “PJ Duke, the 2026 National Champion”. Regardless of how I feel about a referee’s call or a tournament director’s decision, you can’t rewrite a fact because you disagree with it.

I disagree slightly, as Knox did actually win the tournament and get his hand raised. That is different than someone getting robbed by a ref decision or getting disqualified during the tournament. I also just don't care who is or isn't called a 4x NJ state champ, we all know who won and Knox can worry about being a 4x AA rather than getting his past accomplishments properly announced
