Went down a college football rabbit hole and found all the Power Five schools that Northwestern has never played.

A hypothetical: You get to schedule one road game against one of these teams with a guarantee that Northwestern will win. Who are you picking?

Alabama
Baylor
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia
Georgia Tech
LSU
Louisville
Ole Miss
NC State
Oklahoma State
Virginia
Virginia Tech
West Virginia

I’d pick FSU, because I have 2 sisters who went there and having that to hold over them would be awesome.

Well I think your guaranteed win caveat is a bit silly, so I’ll say that of these teams I would like a matchup with Virginia, followed by Ga Tech.

Interesting that we’ve played every single PAC 12 team?

If you're going to guarantee a win, of course I'll take Bama, followed by Clemson.

In the real world, we should schedule UVa and Baylor. It's difficult for us to face either Big XII or ACC teams as bowl opponents, so it makes sense to schedule them in the regular season.

The new bowl ties have a B1G team facing a Big 12 team in the Cheez it bowl and a ACC team in the Pinestripe and Belk Bowl ( every other year).

Baylor? You really want to sink to their moral level?

No thanks.

In the immediate future, I would take Clemson. The game day experience there is phenomenal. I would stay in Greenville SC for the weekend and head to Clemson for the game

Selfishly, UVA would also be a good choice, since it is close by and I still have contacts in their athletic department

Yeah, but do you really want us to fall to the Cheez-it bowl? I think Maryland, Indiana, and Minnesota should fight it out for that one.

Baylor as a university is actually highly religious and generally at a pretty high moral level. I have a cousin who went there and met her current husband. Two of the most selfless people I’ve met which seems to be attributable in part to their shared college experience. So my personal experience with them and others is very different from what might be your perception (granted, possibly small sample size).

I think Baylor had a smallish group of really bad people in leadership positions for a stretch that had their priorities seriously out of whack. And I think most Baylor folks severely regret what happened. I don’t think we should put Baylor University and their fans at large on the same moral level as, say, Penn St. Or most of the SEC. Though they clearly have some work to do to earn back their reputation. I guess I understand if some wouldn’t want to schedule them for that reason (ie fear of association? I guess).

Met a couple of deep pocket Baylor supporters the last time they visited Evanston. They couldn't have been bigger a-holes , if they tried.

It was a pretty long stretch covering the years from Dave Bliss (possibly the worst individual ever involved in college sports) all the way through Art Briles. That's not a brief indiscretion.

Re Baylor. I guess I don't understand the logic that scheduling them is "sinking to their moral level". I'm talking about a football game, not taking them as a model of how to run a university, a football program, or anything else. If we're going to behave as though putting someone on our football schedule is some sort of broad endorsement of their past or current behavior, shouldn't we call up the Big Ten and tell them we're going to forfeit all of our games against Michigan State and Penn State from now on?
