Nu has really struggled in this early season power 5 match-up since Solich. And in most cases the opponent was not ranked or would go on to have a mediocre season.

1. Swept by v-tech
2. Swept Washington...lost to them in a bowl though the same season.
3. Swept by Ucla
4. Split with Miami
5. Split with Oregon
6. Swept by Colorado

Bo was 2-4 in Non-con matchups...the opponents were rarely ranked or on the cusp of top 25...
Riley was 1-2
Frost is 0-2

3-7 over the last 10 years...and none of the 3 wins or 7 losses came against a team that finished in the top 20.

This probably stems from our high turnover/penalty rates as most of these games were very close. We won 9 games in 5 of the seasons where we lost our non-con power 5 game. So hope springs eternal.

People aren't going to agree or like this, but since 2002, when all of Osborne's recruits were gone and some of his staff that held over until what, 1999 or a bit beyond also left, Nebraska slipped into a program that became average, it's what Nebraska football probably should have been all along yet for two coaches that were stratosphere in their collective abilities.

Devaney and Osborne simply were super coaches that elevated Nebraska higher than what it should have been, and now that they're long gone, the Huskers are just another team among many trying to just make it to the top 25 and stay there awhile.

Nebraska wasn't anything special before Devaney or Osborne, other than some good years back in the 1920's and a few in the 30's. Now they're chasing at least a dozen teams from the south and another 8-10 teams like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon who simply have passed them by.

I don't see Nebraska doing much more than being an occasional conference title challenger in the B1G, a lot will have to change in order for that to happen, coaching and recruiting have to get a lot better or floating around the top 40 and occasionally landing in the top 25 is about all you're going to see. Until the next Devaney or Osborne show up, don't count on much more than what you're watching today.

Oh, yes, cu is better, unfortunately, they've won the past two years with two different coaching staffs. But, like Nebraska, since McCartney left, cu is just another program chasing big dreams but yielding little of substance.

My, how the once mighty Huskers and buffs have fallen, but it was an exciting game today.
