Wow !!! I was thinking Noelle might be able to dunk. I love it.

Has anyone ever dunked in a Carolina WBB game? I know Charlotte Smith could dunk
but I do not know if she ever did it in a game.

Noelle might be a factor at the 5 spot for the Tar Heels this season. Hoping !

Way to go Noelle !!!

Charlotte Smith was credited with a dunk as a Heel and it was all over SportsCenter that night.

Thanks ! Do you recall who we were playing etc?

Notice Noelle palming the ball. I posted last season after seeing her in the bench area how big her hands looked. Long fingers.

Noelle may be able to contribute significantly this year. She’s very agile and athletic at 6’4 with great body composition to play on the interior. She averaged 10 rebs a game for her HS career and the video highlights shows that she moves her feet well and really goes after the boards and blocks. Her presence on the interior could be a difference maker especially since she should be acclimated to the program and college with her January enrollment.

Slyvia Crawler was also dunking back then. She stated in past interviews that she missed her first 10 attempts to dunk as a freshman at UNC.

Large hands someone noted. Plamed the ball. REAL dunk. Seldom on women's dunks isitmore than just pushing the ball over the rim. Here she holds the ball and throws it down. If true 6'4", mobile, and decent wingspan and bulk, she would seem immediately the best center prospect. No matter she has to play significant minutes Thomas last seen could not navigate the floor. Toomey would need a jump in execution to be a decently aggressive center. The vid gives me a glimmer of hope for a team with nine guards. TOO MANY GUARDS. Generally lacking in size. Maybe Noelle makes up for lacking.

Yeah, I was at that game against NC A&T when she got the dunk. The crowd went wild including everyone on the bench.
Charlotte also had another breakaway season that I just knew she was going to dunk but she was fouled hard from behind that triggered a brief scuffle.

Every woman who has officially been credited with dunk in an NCAA game:
  • 1. Georgeann Wells, 6'7" West Virginia (1982-86)

  • 2. Charlotte Smith, 6'0" North Carolina (1991-95)

  • 3. Michelle Snow, 6'5" Tennessee (1998-02)

  • 4. Sancho Lyttle, 6'5" Houston, (2003-05)

  • 5. Sylvia Fowles, 6'6" LSU (2004-08)

  • 6. Candace Parker, 6'4" Tennessee (2004-08)

  • 7. Brittney Griner, 6'8" Baylor (2009-13)

  • 8. Francesca Belibi, 6'1" Stanford (2019-04)

  • 9. Ashlyn Watkins, 6'3" South Carolina (2022-present, DNP this past season) - that last recorder dunk in teh NCAA was by Watkins on Dec 8, 2024. Watkins has dunked in all three seasons she played.

Note that at 6'0" Charlotte Smith was the shortest of all these women. Bielbi is 6'1" and the rest were 6'3" (Watkins) or taller. So Smith really stood out in terms of hops.

Nobody dunked during the entire 2025-26 NCAA season.

UofSC is the team to watch this year.
  • Freshman Alicia Tournebize, 6'7" South Carolina - had a dunk at the 2025 FIBA Eurobasket but has not yet done it in college. (she enrolled just last spring)

  • Oliviah Edwards, 6'3" South Carolina participated in the McD A-A dunk contest, so she also has the skill.
  • Add in the return of Watkins and that is three women who are very capable of dunking

There have been many players over the years like Toby Fournier at dook: a documented ability to dunk but as of yet have not done it in a game.

I saw the dookie girls gather around for Toby to dunk in a pregame. You might could call it a dunk but it was
mostly a finger tip push over the rim.

Noelle had a real dunk/jam. Go Heel's!!!

Hi tarboy, you cannot call that a dunk if it was a finger tip push over the rim. Noelle was a dunk. Thanks for sharing. Candance Parker and Brittany Grainer had a lot of dunks when they played in college. Heck, Candance Parker won the McDonalds AA game dunk contest against the boys her senior year in high school. She did after she had just recovered from an leg injury her senior year in high school.

3397Char you forgot to add in NB for our team. That makes four women capable of dunking a basketball in college next season. She could possible get one against a non conference opponent like NCA&T, Elon, etc.

I am not listing everyone in the NCAA who may be in theory capable of dunking. That list likely is a large handful of women. But doing it is another matter.

the three at UofSC I thought were notable as they are all on one team and: 1 already has done it in NCAA three years in a row, one has already done it in Eurobasket with a slicker, harder to grip leather ball (Eurobasket Molten BG500), and one was invited to the premier HS dunking contest.

As for Bofia, I think she will develop more and more with our strength training. The sky is the limit. But in the immediate, I would like to see her do it off the dribble in a warmup first. Gathering to palm the ball off the dribble in live action, heart pumping, is significantly harder than what we saw her do on Insta

I am hoping Noelle will drop step and dunk on ol' Toby the one the announcers can't get enough of.

It no doubt helps those that can actually palm the basketball like Noelle.

Hey Jriv, exactly my point all those dookie girls jumping around and cheering and I don't think it was even a dunk. Lol.

Like 3397 says, wait until she Noelle gets even stronger. Dunks and swat some layup attempts.

Cannot wait for some more info to leak about this years team. I think Coach CB has built a good one.

Far as season goes, the dunking option is irrelevant. Strong positional defense and rebounding, plus an occasional block is the ticket needed for team wins. With so many shortish guards, somebody has to have a strong inside game as a foundation. When all those guards are missing shots, the ball will be bounding all around. Need seconds. Need somehow to limit opponents to one shot. We don't need to wait for greater strength. We need players right now.

nicheel, you have some good points. I think our guards are the standard height especially the point guard position. 5'9" and 5'10" is a good height for a point guard right now in women's basketball. I think TQ, Noelle and Akot will hold down the inside. Burrough is a tall CG at 6'2" and she can really shoot the ball. Kate, Gabby, and CC are the height that you will need to run the PG position. These three are strong, can handle the physicality at the PG position along with RK if healthy. I predict CT to be much stronger than last year since she had an injury free year which is something she has not had in the past three years. Our wings are tall. Hull and NB are tall at 6'1". Hull can shoot it as well. The key will be BT. She has the height, the body build, etc. to handle the physicality, but she has a lot that she will need to work on during the offseason. I agree with tarboy. I think this year's team is built to handle the physicality and toughness as a whole than last year. Plus this team has more veteran leadership than last year. Go Heels!
