Reading both boards, we appear to have played a game where everyone lost. I don't think I have ever seen two fanbases both so livid with their coaches after a game. That one did not do either team much good in terms of establishing anything or setting the stage for even a little optimism.

This is the point where I should say "good game.". But it wasn't.

Until we meet again.

It was a moral defeat for NU.

How are we supposed to feel after you all told us we would roll you by 56 and we get this? We made you look like Alabama at times. If we barely squeezed a win against Rutgers, what are we in for in the next three games against Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Iowa?????

We are effed.

EvanstonCat, every team has a "WTF game" during their season, (or at least it seems the great majority do), so you could chalk NU's performance today up to that fact. -Bottom line is, though, that presently you've got a winning record, and the 'Cats can put this game in the rearview mirror and move on to your upcoming games with at least the chance of posting some W's.

Rutgers, on the other hand?? Well, just about every game we've played this year could be called a "WTF" performance, and with the conference games we have coming up to finish out this season, well...we just might make college football history in the "points scored against" category. -And even if we don't achieve that dubious distinction, you can be sure it won't be pretty. ...So if any team is "effed" right now, my money would be on the one that was in Scarlet today.

You made us look like Alabama? What a condescending pretentious statement there Cotton. Our players played hard our coaches unfortunately are simply incompetent. How about we took our best player out for the entire second half for only God knows what reason as he wasn't hurt.

Except Northwestern gets a W and we get another L. Not every win is pretty but even an ugly win is a win.

The problem teams have playing us, is that if they lose the coach should be fired. There is no excuse for any team that has D1 level players and an average coaching staff should have a loss.

You guys should fire Fitz. JK. For whatever reason, our guys got pumped up and played a game today, forgetting for a moment that their coaches suck. But as fate would have it, the coaches pulled them right back in by benching the hot hand.

The condescending nature of this post is irritating. Complaining about a win to a fan base that is staring a 1-11 season in the face. Maybe the next time we meet we have a new coach a better team and we’ll actually give you something to cry about.

Some posters on our own board complained about this thread (they are still sanctimonious a-holes, but I digress). I for one didn't originally think there was anything wrong with it - we are just really disappointed with our team's performance today (despite the win) and I for one didn't think you guys would be this offended, given all the self-deprecation on the board this past week. Indeed most of you seemed to take it in stride.

This said, if there was any offense, then I apologize for my part in it. We've definitely been there before. For years. And perhaps we forgot how painful it can be.

FWIW, your defense looked a lot better with Ash calling the plays. This was not expected against an offense that featured the #1 WR in the league and a QB who passed for 455 yards last week and is projected to go in the top half of the draft and even after the day's pedestrian performance, sits at #8 in all time passing yards in the B1G passing Kyle Orton and JT Barrett.

If you guys can play defense that way (and it's not just us having a bad day) the rest of the way, I'm not sure you'll end up 1-11.
Good luck and do hope you can knock someone off, particularly anyone else in the West that you may be playing.

Reminded me of Homecoming last year when we beat Purdue by 2.

Exactly.
Getting lucky and winning games when you score less than 20 points (we scored 14 last year - literally 2 decent drives in the whole game) is not a cause for celebration.

At least Northwestern has other games this year to show they can score.

Last year alot of people shouted down anyone who pointed out the Purdue win was luck and not a sustainable approach.

@EvanstonCat - Ignore the poor hosts on this board; seems as though some overly sensitive RU fans may be hittin' the sauce a bit too hard after the latest loss. Our HC is toast...was likely toast day 1...but with the right HC, in the media capital of the world, full conference share, and the ability to mine an extremely fertile recruiting territory, RU Football can PURR...if...the RU administration finally acknowledges that admittance to the B1G requires more than slapping lipstick on a pig. Otherwise, it'll be status quo...just cashing bigger conference-share checks.

Apology accepted in my book. Any poster who can apologize for an unintended indiscretion is welcome here.
It's acceptable for us fans of this dredge of a football squad to critique and disparage it. We live it and have had a vested interest in it for years. However, any outsider to come in here and do so, will catch ire and wrath from myself and many others. It's still our very own Rutgers on the Banks of the Old Raritan.

Hard to say anyone but Rutgers is the true loser here. We lost the game and are on our way to a 1 win season,. And oh by the way, here is the real kicker, we get to keep Ash for the next couple of years until his awful contract runs out.

The pivotal difference, Evanston Cat, is that you lost the Akron game. On Saturday against RU you won. If a team can have a game where it's off its stride but still comes away with a victory, well, believe me, Rutgers fans would take that sort of situation in a nanosecond. -Unfortunately for the Knights though, it seems we simply only put up L's, regardless of what our "on" or "off" status might be. (But obviously, at 1-7, we're mostly off; wayyyy off.)

Bill Parcells once said, "You are what your record says you are", so currently your team, sitting at 4-3 overall and 4-1 in conference, is playing winning football. Rutgers, on the other hand, is presently playing, well...I just don't even have the words.

If there is a way to make a post on an opponent's board after a close win without coming off as a troll, then I obviously have not found it. Apologies for the apparent condescension. It was not intended. Out.
