I do as well. I think under the radar, bit of chip on the shoulder is exactly what this team needs this year. Perfect. Is it just me? I like it better this way.
Most programs lost 2 big parts or moreWe lost two big parts
Lets have a reality check
Not sure whining over is appropriate
Most programs lost 2 big parts or more
People seem to keep questioning the who gets the ball with 10 secs left type question. To me that's pretty obvious. Paul will have the ball and the play will likely be Paul and Cliff high ball screenWell, if we're saying that this is a Top 4 Big Ten team then we're an NCAA Tournament lock and one of the favorites to win the Big Ten. Is anyone prepared to say that? I'm not.
We lost two major veteran scorers who were capable of creating their own shots and delivering in pressure situations in end games when everyone knew where the ball was going. Quick, who is getting the ball in the last 10 seconds when we need a bucket? Yeah, we added Spencer. By all indications he's an excellent spot up shooter but in this league but you need guys that you can count on to get you some buckets when not everything is running on all cylinders EVERY NIGHT. And there are two sides of the floor. I'm not sold that a backcourt of Mulcahy and Spencer is capable of putting the clamps on Big Ten guards.
Spencer Simpson plus player development of current rosterAm i missing the scoring recruits we have coming
I'm questioning who we can hand the ball to and rely on him to get us out of scoring droughts by just handing him the ball and letting him beat his man. Geo and Ron made countless baskets without the help of anyone and also when everyone knew they were going to take the shot.People seem to keep questioning the who gets the ball with 10 secs left type question. Exactly. People act like we lost big players and other teams return everyoneAll of our expected top competition have many questions, too.
Illinois lost Kofi Cockburn (HUGE loss), Austin Hutcherson (?). Curbelo and four other guys transferred. They have some hyped recruits and transfers coming in but nothing like Kofi. They only have FOUR returning players from last year's roster. Those four played a combined 16.3% of their minutes last season and scored less than 15% of their points. Yet they are well regarded by many.
Indiana returns their big names and lost four transfers. There are some highly-rated recruits coming in but other than Xavier Johnson, the backcourt is a big question IMO.
Iowa lost Keegan Murray, a big time loss, and Joe Toussaint transferred to WVU. A lot will depend on what Kris Murray can do.
Michigan lost three (Jones, Diabate, Houstan) to the NBA draft/pros. Again, multiple big name recruits are coming in, but they lost a lot.
Michigan State lost Christie, Bingham, and Gabe Brown, plus Marble transferred. They lost their top thee scorers, leading rebounder, and two top shot blockers. That's a lot to replace.
Ohio State lost Liddell and Branham to the draft, Ahrens and Meechie Johnson to the portal. They do have a strong recruiting class, but can those guys replace someone like Liddell in year one?
Purdue lost Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams. Stefanovic is finally gone. Thompson and Hunter transferred. The backcourt took a huge hit there. Who's ready to step in for those guys? Who gets the ball with ten seconds left, to borrow a popular question here? Edey? Someone has to be able to get it to him. Can he play 32 minutes a night? I see lots of questions here.
Wisconsin lost their top stat Johnny Davis to the NBA. Brad Davison finally ran out of eligibility too. Who is replacing those guys?
After reading the above, WHY NOT US in the top four again?
Why are you assuming giving the ball to someone to go one on one is the best way to end a scoring drought?I'm questioning who we can hand the ball to and rely on him to get us out of scoring droughts by just handing him the ball and letting him beat his man. Geo and Ron made countless baskets without the help of anyone and also when everyone knew they were going to take the shot.
Totally agree. However, I'm sure that Pike is well aware of end of shot clock situations and has been working on it in practice. Whether Ron and Geo can be replaced is, I assume, one of his major concerns. We'll have to see how it plays out.Well, if we're saying that this is a Top 4 Big Ten team then we're an NCAA Tournament lock and one of the favorites to win the Big Ten. Rutgers loss 28 points with the departure of Harper and Baker which is the reason for the preseason predictions.Nobody knows which players will step up in scoring against Big Ten competition.Fans should be optimistic, however, based on the players returning and the addition of new players. The early season game at home against Indiana will give some indication as to how strong Rutgers will be against perceived top competition. He's not wrong. Many here seem to under a false premise that we lost more than other B1G programs, but it's just not the case. We return more than almost everyone else
Spencer Simpson plus player development of current roster
You can't ask who is an incoming recruit then point to no minutes lolSimpson has not played one minute
Spencer is unproven at this stepped up level of competition
Others schools also develop their roster
Lack off go to guy. Mulchay hasnt had that role
Its certainly reasonable to say Rutgers is a top 8 school in the Big 10 but its a stretch to say respect when they just lost 2 1000 point scorers
who can step back and drain a 3?
Alot of questions need to be answered first
All true. So what's different about other programs and their numerous holes that are still higher pre-season ranked? My guess is recruiting rankings. We have lower ranked pieces filling in the holes than other top programs. But as I said before, until proven otherwise, confidence in Pikeill fills that gap for me.Even if Geo wasnt the main scoring cog, opposing defenses always respected him and he was a main focus of their defense. With both Geo and Ron gone, Cliff will get much more focus...and do we have the proper players to back Cliff up. Big questions at the 4 spot
Harper and Baker were big losses. He's not wrong. Many here seem to under a false premise that we lost more than other B1G programs, but it's just not the case. We return more than almost everyone else
Are they bigger losses than Jaden Ivey and Trevion Williams, leaving Edey with no proven help?Harper and Baker were big losses.
Other teams will have to respect Spencer's 3 point shooting even more than Geo's. If anything, Spencer spaces the floor more for CliffEven if Geo wasnt the main scoring cog, opposing defenses always respected him and he was a main focus of their defense. With both Geo and Ron gone, Cliff will get much more focus...and do we have the proper players to back Cliff up. Big questions at the 4 spot
I feel like we are talking in circles here. If every other team returned everyone and only we lost Baker and Harper then sureHarper and Baker were big losses.
Probably “It’s not fair” which is something a child says to their daddyI said in another thread that someone on Indiana’s message board said something along the line of “Rutgers’ recent success against us doesn’t matter because they suck”. I mean, what?
**** these clowns, I wonder what the excuses will be this year when we beat em like a drum in their hype year
