No link yet, but Gottfried just Gottfired. ***

most coaches, even good ones, have about a ten year run somewhere, before something happens. Players quit listening, etc, and that coach needs to move on somewhere else. They then seem to do well again somewhere else.
Now that Gottfried is gone, Dennis Felton is probably sweating bullets. You know his *** was gone last year until they pulled the SEC Tournament out of their ***.

I think Pelphrey and Lebo get one more year, and depending on how the Any Kennedy saga plays out, he might be gone too.

but the "players quit listening" is really a professional sports deal. With 4-5 year eligibility, it really doesn't apply to college.
But I agree, there is somethign about the 10 year mark--I think its b/c even if you are fairly successful, your fanbase wants to go to another level.

they don't care enough about it. Basketball is about #20 on their priority list. Football is #1 through 19. I'm not worried, I just think it's funny that all the coaches that Coach34 touts as being better than Stansbury seem to get fired every year.
its only a matter of time before he is in the SEC. this would be his 3rd or 4th time being rumored for an SEC job in the last couple years? i think 4. gotta hit on one sometime soon!

Jimmy Johnson got fired as coach of the Cowboys, but that doesnt mean he wasnt successful and didnt win some Super Bowls.
Bobby Knight has a perfect season and a couple of NC's, but was fired by Indiana- doesnt mean he wasnt successful
Gottfried has more NCAA Tourney appearances than Ricky (7-5) and has advanced farther (Elite 8) than Ricky ever will by two rounds. You cant change his success either- its part of history- just because he got fired
Brady has a Final Four- and that is whether he has a job or not. Its already been achieved.
Stansbury has some West titles- yayyyyyyyyyyy
You just compared Bob Knight to Mark Gottfried. Nice going. One has 2 NC's and 800-something wins. The other has 1 SEC title, 0 tourney titles, 1 division title, and one good weekend in one NCAA tournament.
Bob Knight wasn't fired for sucking, either, and neither was Jimmuh Johnson. Failed to mention that in your ludicrous comparison.
Point being, Stansbury has been far more consistent than Brady or Gottfried were. And those great NCAA tournament runs, which you say are much more important to a program than winning 20 games consistently, got Brady and Gottfried absolutely nothing in the long run. Nobody is saying we don't want to have an NCAA tourney run, but Stansbury has put us in a position to make that run eventually. Brady & Gottfried made a run, and it did nothing to help their program.
You also loved Stan Heath. Shitcanned for sucking ***. Rod Barnes went to a Sweet 16 - fired. And now Pelphrey is your new boy toy, and his team is 0-4 in the league.
Wake up, "son". We have a damn good coach in Rick Stansbury.

Never saw them interact at Tuscaloosy, but at the Hump during and shortly after the Mario Austin days, there was absolutely nothing civil about the way they acted with each other, pregame or post game and usually Gotfried shucking it on out of there because he was the loser.
But the last two years, noticeaably different attitude in that they were civil before and after game, and that is with us winning and he actually chatted a little with Stans and the players postgame.
He was a beaten man Saturday, kinda like +%## it, I'm toast anyway.

What am I missing? Gottfried has struggled the last couple of years and Bama expects to win and make the NCAA Tourney. He was fired- I get it.
Ricky has been more consistent, but has not been as successful. I dont know what more can be said about it.
a complete crock of ****, and you know it. You're just saying this to not look like an idiot now that another one of your "coaches that's better than Stansbury" has gotten fired. That's 3 in 2 years now - Brady, Heath, and now Gottfried.Coach34 said:
...Alabama doesn't have "a little higher expectations" than MSU when it comes to basketball.
Alabama has virtually no expectations when it comes to basketball. That's why Gottfried was so good for Bama while he lasted; he won a little @ a football school that makes 0 demands on the basketball program.
If Alabama had won the Sugar Bowl, Gottfried could have lost the rest of his games this season by 30 points & nobody associated with Bama Nation would have given a crap.
But since Utah tagged that elephant ***, all the Bama hicks are still clamoring for a scapegoat. That's where Gottfried comes in.
Of all the SECW schools, only Ole Miss & Auburn puts less emphasis on basketball.
MSU, UPig & LSU actually care about basketball.

Gottfried has just as many overall titles as Ricky...Gottfried has as many NCAA Tourney appearances...You are the one that doesnt want Stansbury fired even if we dont make the Tourney this year and next...and that would be one appearance in 5 years....no way for you to say Bama doesnt have higher expectations
I could care less about Bama. You being an ex coach should know how tough it is to win the "west" which is very important to the players. I bet you never said winning your conference in baseball wasn't important and I bet if you did you would hang banners or show trophies or display rings for the players and the staff! You being an ex coach should know that that luck plays a big part in winning the "big games". Stans teams have had a tough draw such as good teams like Duke who we played to the wire, X same thing, Butler who had a very talented team that year and beat us on a last shot and Tx who we had to play in Texas. All of those teams were good and I don't find shame in losing to any of those. Now if the sisters of the poor were beating us different story. As an ex coach you should know that after the first round all teams are good. Stans does a good job year in and year out, I just think your yelping about him is very tiresome because it's the same ole same ole with you. Just ease off the pedal, after all you once were in a proud fraterity such as I and should realize how tough a job Stans has and how good of a job he has done and deserves more from you being an ex coach. Take it with a grain of salt 34, lucky for you is you don't have to put your work on display for folks like you to sound like the game is easy to coach, I know as I have coached at a higher level once and it takes chemistry, talent and something that is real important is LUCK. Just saying.
