OP should expect to get whacked here by some of the most prolific board posters for suggesting that Rutgers Athletics could even contemplate JUCOs.

I don't think there is any strong philosophical objection to JUCO's. The problem is that many JUCO's are Phys Ed majors and RU will not accept their credits. Plus, it's not like RU is any JUCO player's dream school. Quality JUCO's are in demand by more attractive programs than ours.

A caller last night asked Ash about getting JUCOs into RU. He correctly replied IF they qualified for D1 coming out of HS, and had decent JUCO grades then usually no problem. But many kids going directly to JUCO had grade issues, that is the problem. Those few who actually qualified but went to JUCO or Prep to developed physically more and get better offers, were easier to get admitted.

Ummm.....That’s not true. Any P-5 school with playing time is a Juco’s dream. You just got your *** handed to you by a team full of Jucos in Kansas. Kansas State lives off Jucos. West Virginia, Iowa State, TCU, and other programs live of Jucos.

I think you just made my point. All of the schools you cite are more attractive than RU at this time.

I think this is a tell tale sign that RU needs to make a move on Ash at the end of the season. Ash is pinning his hopes on recruiting players that will be at RU for a couple of years to get him a 6 win season. The bloom is officially off the rose.

Getting to 6 wins would probably mean the team and coaches are improving which would be the 1st step toward better recruiting. If JUCO's are the way to get there, I'm OK with it as long as we get there.

Jucos work elsewhere but they won't work for Rutgers because we can't land enough quality. its an idiotic strategy that has already failed for Rutgers. anyone who thinks Rutgers is landing aaron rodgers caliber jc recruits is out of their ******* mind.

I'm not doubting you, but tell me more. Aren't there community colleges in NJ that play football? Wouldn't they perhaps have some good players? They don't have to be Aaron Rodgers to help us.

No, NJ doesn’t have any jucos. Well one which is essentially a club team you have to pay for. It’s open to any CC student in NJ and they practice out of Jackson. Meanwhile every other program offers schollies and no commute.

Abro, I called about the Jucos. Especially since I have a phy ed degree.

That was one of the best phone calls in this season for the Chris Ash shows. Unfortunately for Ash, it's probably too late. I think he's gone by early December.

To be fair we would probably get our asses handed to us by ACTUAL JuCos.

I believe the closest thing to a local JuCo football team is Nassau CC on Long Island. We briefly landed Malcolm Pridgeon from there before he came to his senses and went to OSU.

My point is need to help these coaches. Sports Illustrated wrote last year Auburn wanted to get rid of a major and athletic department complained and major stayed. did not say what it was.
