NIT Possibility?

??? Huh? Asking if a win today clinches an NIT bid no matter what happens with the big ten tourney. We did make the NIT at .500 before with Duncan and Hughes.

RU has to win 2 in the BTT. One win gets them to .500, but a loss in the second game drops them back below.

I hope fans remember last season when Hofstra embarrassed Rutgers at the RAC in the first round of the NIT.The team clearly wasn't prepared to play.

The answer is the criteria has changed for the NIT bids since those early Wenzel yesrs

Back then …the NIT was privately owned and they invited who they thought was the next best 32 teams , but there was a emphasis on getting Intersting match ups for getting ticket sales , and they tried to get local match ups in the early rounds….

Once the NCAA purchased the NIT, they made it a criteria for the small league regular season champ to be taken if they didn’t make the NCAA through their tournment,(they changed the rule this year, not sure to what ) and they went to ncaa style seeding and brackets to reallt take the next best 32 teams by the same criteria as selecting the ncaa

So…getting to .500 gives us a chance , but most of the NIT field is approx teams number 50 thorough 80 …and I think , even if we won 2 big ten tourney games to get to 17-17, we would be short in getting invited to the NIT….

We probably needed to finish 17-14, and won one in the BTN tourney and we would have solidly be in at 18-15

Maybe at 17-15

I think the NIT would try to feed us easier home games to get us to the garden, as long as we had a .500 record to get in

That was long ago with previous ownership

If RU got to .500% would we have received NIT bid?

I see a team RU defeated, Seton Hall, blowing out north Texas right now in the 2nd round.

3 Big Ten teams are still playing in it too.

We should all be grateful we didn't get a bid. All we would have done was embarrassed ourselves like we did the last two weeks of the season and like we did last year. The team quit on the season.
