NIL vs 3-4 years

Was having a discussion this morning about the difference between us and USM. This is not meant as a shot at our program at all, just some thoughts on NIL and roster construction.

If you stack the rosters side by side, we are the more talented team overall. But USM has a core group of guys who have been there 3 to 4 years, and you can clearly see the chemistry and leadership. They play like a team that truly knows and cares for each other.

On the flip side, we really only have one guy who has been here four years. A lot of our roster has been assembled quickly through NIL and the portal, and I am not sure we have developed that same identity or leadership core yet.

So for the baseball people, and those who pretend to be, how much does continuity, team chemistry, and genuine buy in to your teammates and school matter compared to simply having the most talent on the field?

This will change starting next year. Not to say portal grabs are not going to happen(they will) but we will have our "core" under BOC moving forward. This year to me, will be the anomaly since Oak brought those UVA guys with him

Hope, and as a fan believe, you are right. My question is really general, not specifically about us. Just used us and USM as a reference.

I think baseball is the sport that playing together as a team for years matters least. Would be a bigger deal in football basketball or soccer. But baseball is more of a sport of individual matchups.
