My guess is that he quit now to preserve his redshirt, having not played in 4 games.
Exactly everyone needs to read McMurphys tweet. It says exactly that he is sitting out and Will redshirt. Nobody can transfer to another school in September and play.

...many moons ago, on my first of 3 run ins with cars where they all tried me out as a hood ornament while on a bike ride....i got blasted by a teenage driver while i was literally on a sidewalk for that portion of the ride, busted my helmet is several places, looked terrible, shook me up, but I was fine. Kid got a ticket. I could have sued for whatever the policy limits were and gotten them, with no lawyer, as I happened to be a self employed claim adjuster at the time. I settled for the cost of the bike, helmet and clothes they tore...

..while I was signing the settlement papers the guy from American Family said this is very rare and appreciated my honesty on the subject and I thats when i worked in i was a self employed adjuster and i'd like to discuss doing biz with them when they needed my kind of service...dude told me he knew all he needed to after the accident and how i handled it and i landed them as my biggest client the following week. did work for them for years, maybe a decade? literally fed me and my family for a decade...and it happened cause in the end i didn't chase the fast buck

..maybe this kid is missing a similar opportunity. play out the season, go public, in a classy way..be a spokesperson for other athletes and help make them aware of getting everything in writing, be a poster child for how it can go wrong, Vegas is full of million dollar business's who's appreciate that kind of attitude and integrity. I wouldn't be socked f he could turn this into an amazing opportunity to help land a great job after college, and we know how much business's love to hire higher profile football hero's.

I just wonder if he's considered the long game on this. Cause they way he handled this now, doesn't make him very appealing to many business's later i wouldn't think.

My dad, who oozes integrity and faith and doesn't have a manipulative bone in his body and is the kind of dad everyone should have and everyone loves, never would have let me do what you are suggesting, and I appreciate him for that more and more the older I get. If yours would teach you to do what this kid did, we just live in different zip codes when it comes to your word and integrity and thinking of how your decision affects others. That's fine, everyone mileage on this differs, just sharing how I feel about it.
Aren't you the guy who essentially spearheads the underage sex thread? No judgement haha. I just don't see how someone making a business decision is somehow a-moral.

pssst, i'm going to tell you something but don't tell anyone else..OK? We straight on that?

here goes..... I don't think its a great idea for teachers to be fvcking their students. I will lol at them when they get caught, and whatever happens to them so be it, they deserve it.

Parents that let kids start something and then allow them to quit do a real disservice to the kid.
If the kid begins something that is gonna be really challenging, and the parent makes it clear to the kid that it is NOT gonna be easy to complete, that is a great way to earn respect both ways.

The kid builds some strength through adversity, the parent supports the kid through a difficult task, at the end of the day, both are better because of the difficulty they faced together.

That's when you know you can depend on each other when life gets tough.

When people lie to you and essentially steal from you, you better have the conviction to stand up for yourself

No, you’re long-winded enough. If that was your grandson, you would be his advocate. Sure is easy to be honorable with other peoples money. Nuff said,

That’s how this was looking. My speculation is that he can exhaust his eligibility and never make any money playing football, or he can red shirt, transfer and make a few hundred thousand next year. I need to know who promised what to whom. That part is clear as mud.

There is always this weird idea about quitting.

I was an asst speech coach at my school for one season and then I stopped doing it. Does that make me a quitter?

Did I have to keep doing it for my entire career?

My coaches for Mock Trial could no longer help this year because of family obligations, they all have young families now, are they quitters?

I think they should allow for in season trades
Who’s to say in season transfers isn’t coming, there’s nobody that can enforce that. Yeah the NCAA or other schools can say that’s not allowed, but can anyone actually do anything about it? I really have no idea

This is going to be interesting, alot of conflicting stories:

That’s exactly right. “ agents contracted for NIL deal with the school” OK, fine. Someone has to show receipts. I’m not doubting the kid wants to renegotiate as well, however. This is a good story, I’m enjoying it very much.

its like porn, you know it when you see it (not that i ever see it)

you know if each of those instances was quitting or if you just completed it and chose not to keep going, we all know the diff.

"A minimum of 100k to transfer".

The devil is in the details.

If that was a handshake deal from Bob's heating and air conditioning, then he's got nobody to blame but himself.

If it was a deal from their collective, then, yeah, of course he's going to sit.

I'm kind of surprised by some of the takes here. How many coaches would continue to coach their teams if they stopped getting paid?
That depends.

Right around 100% of them would quit if the University quit paying them their salary.

Right around 0% of them would quit if Aflac stopped paying them on their endorsement deal.

That’s the thing. It’s clear we don’t know who’s telling the truth. There are major facts being omitted. I kind of expected the coach to stand up for his guy, but he didn’t. He must be OK with the back up.

Maybe the coach didn’t agree with him on demanding more money. Which is one of the reports

Since all this payment is supposed to be outside of the university - is there much he can say?

I know you don't actually get worked up from the posts here but I would still LOVE to see like an "angry meter" or "blood pressure" meter when you post!

Again, I DO NOT MEAN THIS IN A SERIOUS WAY. I DO NOT THINK YOU ACTUALLY GET MAD.

I just though it was funny and I am sorry for this post.

So an assistant coach with possibly no authorization to make an offer of NIL makes one. They go to the collective and the collective says what? We aren’t paying anyone 100 k . Sound like a **** show.
A lot of stuff to sort through here but it seems you’ve summed it all up. Lesson to all players, get the deals in writing before starting with new team. One issue I do have about players quitting during the season is being on scholarship, I think they should be charged back prorated tuition costs.

his beef is with the UNLV NIL collective, as suspected

sure, it's "outside the university", but not disassociated with it
Head coach and assistant head coach need to be called onto the carpet by the A.D. about these allegations. Pay the man.

So the guy took the word of an AC and didn’t do his due diligence? What is his degree from Holy Cross in? Sorry if you’re talking money, you get it written, a verbal won’t cut it.

It’s a mess there but basics of life man.
