If I wanted Derek Simpson to market my product why should I tell the world how much I paid him?
I cannot imagine the SCHOOL would want NIL deals made public. If I'm Steve Pikiell, I don't want X player knowing what Y player got paid in NIL, as it sets an unofficial precedent and then every player would *expect* at least that amount or more.

I dont think all professionals have their salaries made public. if things evolve past where they are today (unions, schools involved in payments vs. private deals, etc)...then I think you can make the argument to make them public.
Endorsement deals aren't made public typically and they certainly shouldn't be mandated to be.

Sadly no more loyalty or rooting for a guy just root for you colleg….professional team. Shame on those who looked at NIL through rose colored glasses and didn’t look at the beast they were creating. Now that Dartmouth has voted to unionize, the party is over. I can't imagine how many schools are going to just cave in and ditch sports altogether. Probably not worth it.

Ke'lel Ware went from Oregon to Indiana.....Indiana has a bad coach.....Mgbako went to Indiana and isn't going to the NCAAS....but he at least got his shot attempts and exposure.
Bronny James probably helped sell USC hoops season tickets but a heart ailment and some injuries derailed a promising "potential " season....Georgetown paid a ton of money to finish 10th out of 11 teams in a vastly overrated Big East.....the only reason they're not last is because DePaul still exists as a program.
I can add other facts but NIL is the biggest overhyped item that generates more clicks than almost anything.
NIL isn't saving Mike Woodson, didn't save Chris Holtmann and has Mick Cronin on the hot seat out at UCLA....Sean Miller, a known cheater before NIL was "legit", now has to actually work to coach when everyone else can retain their players or secure others.
NIL is the best thing to happen to college sports. Because in another year or two, donors and schools will "correct " the market and someone will be smart enough to actually determine legitimate value for football and basketball players. So a overhyped former 4* recruit gets an updated snapshot of reality when they don't produce. And an underrated unranked recruit, gets his bag, because he or she earned it.
The smarter coaches and programs will NOT burn lots of money on NIL and wisely select, research and properly assess every player. Keep in mind, Jeremiah Williams is actually more productive than Mulcahy by a LOT and I could argue is better overall as a guard than Cam Spencer. There are more Jeremiah Williams kids coming from a Temple or Cam Spencer from the Patriot League, that warrant getting paid, vs some unknown or unproven HS recruit.
But, keep pushing the NIL hype train....the more you overhype players like Cam Spencer and Mawot Mag, the more money they actually make.....Maybe if we as fans "stop feeding the hype" the market corrects itself and RU actually finds better players.

Someone just posted that NIL is "overhyped." That is the single most hysterical post in the history of many hysterical posts on this board. And that is not hyperbole. There is no develpment in the history of college sports and specifically football and basketball more significant. None. One example that person used was Mick Cronin at UCLA. Cronin has virtually no NIL money. Nor does the football coach there and that is why UCLA is in deep trouble. Unless you have a deep and significant war chest, there is no chance of success in the Power 6. We are talking at a bare minimum of $55,000 for every football starter and probably $75,000 for every basketball starter with the number smuch higher at many places. Higher like the 2.5 million that the Duke qb got to go to ND.,etc. Certainly, there are third parties like Fanatics who can assist the cause and Rutgers basketball is the beneficiary there. Those who protest the most about NIL are firmly in the camp of I don't or will never donate. Fortunately, there are many others who take the opposite approach. If Rutgers did not have a semblance of a war chest in football, then the roster would look dramatically different. Please no one buy into the NIL is not significant false narrative.
I don’t think 3rd transfers have been tested but if the NCAA isn’t allowed to make 2nd transfers sit out there doesn’t seem to be any logical reason they’d be able to regulate 3rd transfers.
.....and NIL will bury a lot of non revenue sports. Sports that were comfortably able to exist before $ came in to college sports

Ehhhhh...."resources" from the school can't go there. Also, many of these sports have VERY devoted alumni, with deep pockets, who will take care of NIL for now.

Their team salary is public.

There is something to be said about corporations (not just college athletics) actively trying to discourage compensation conversations among staff.
Public transparency ensures the company is being equitable to everyone.

If you are a donor who wants to see your team win. Are you donating to endow a coaching spot (pre NIL) OR are you giving to a collective?
Yes many donations are going from practice facilities to NIL in player's pockets, but there were plenty of money being donated that indirectly or directly reduced the athletic department losses.
Rutgers poaching must be limited to shooters similar to Spencer and a possible need for a replacement for Cliff at center.Players returning need intensive player development to assist Bailey and Harper generate a offense that can score at least 70 points a game. Status quo decision making will result in deep disappointment.

Exactly. People are so hesitant to discuss their compensation and the result is the balance of power shifts towards the employer because they have all the information and the candidates do not. People don't know except in extremely broad strokes what their true market value is.
