https://www.businessinsider.com/why-nike-vaporfly-shoes-make-runners-faster-2019-11

this technology is revolutionizing running and is referred by some as "mechanical doping"
they have a carbon plate embedded that acts like a mini-spring

an NCAA cross country regional had to moved from turf to the roads due to weather this year and large -cash rich nike schools - scrambled to get these shoes for their athletes with remarkable results

records are dropping fast, the number of runners meeting the olympic marathon qualifying standard has exploded - almost all wearing these shoes

I know no one cares about track and xc, however, Nike is developing this technology for basketball and football shoes/cleats

Those shoes are ugly as sin though. This reminds me of back when Barry Bonds was roided to the gills and destroying every pitching staff for a few seasons. He additionally wore a giant piece of armor on his arm to negate the effects of getting hit by pitches since he practically stood on the plate. I read some expert theorized that he may additionally have had a mechanical advantage installed into that giant piece of armor thereby giving him even more bat speed. He was cheating as much as he could get away with, so it isn't unreasonable to believe he was cheating in that regard too. MLB stiffened up the padding on arms rule shortly after he and several others were really pushing the limit on said armor.

Similar to the swimming suits at the Sydney Olympics that, I believe, have since been deemed illegal. When every race yields a destroying of the previous world record, world records become pointless.
