"When God and country unite, Christianity has lost its roots."

Hmmm. Someone forgot to tell that to the Founders of the American republic.

George Washington – first President of the United States of America

In a speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs on May 12, 1779, Washington encouraged them to learn the religion of Jesus Christ:

“My ears hear with pleasure the other matters you mention. Congress will be glad to hear them too. You do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ. These will make you a greater and happier people than you are. Congress will do every thing they can to assist you in this wise intention; and to tie the knot of friendship and union so fast, that nothing shall ever be able to loose it.

– George Washington, speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs, May 12, 1779.

John Quincy Adams

“The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity.” – John Quincy Adams

John Jay, First Chief-Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

– John Jay

Daniel Webster, Early American Politician

“The Christian religion – its general principles – must ever be regarded among us as the foundation of civil society.”

Sometimes I forget that a lot of duke fans didn't actually go there. Nothing like this thread to remind me lmao.

There are a few Duke grads here. I think we usually tend to fall into a similar category when it comes to these sorts of things.

I am entertained that the people who usually squawk the most about this guy kneeling are the same ones who defend a president who literally disrespected POWs and Gold Star families and our military leadership.

LITERALLY.

Hypocrites of the absolute worst kind, who care more about perception than reality.

The black police union just issued a message supporting Kap. And there is a problem with the way police interact with these communities and it is well documented. Don't forget that the police are the STATE. He has every right to criticize them as he would any other public official.
You run up on a stray pit bull and a stray Lab are you going to interact with them the same? Lol ..(not trying to categorize anybody) but history and tendencies are real. They’re both mostly good dogs. But you can’t erase and hide history and tendencies of a lot of the minority and do your job safely. Especially with recent bad tendencies in bad areas. Hope you get the point. And by no means should you shoot the dog unless by all means you have no choice. :) Police being there to begin with could be part of the problem...

One of the many great things about this country is you can vote, you can vote with your spending dollar, and you can vote with what you choose to watch on TV or read. I support anyone who has the principles to do any and all of these and I try not to judge why or how they exercise these rights.

Who the heck appointed you as a spokesman for Duke grads on this board? I am sure that there are many of us that don't fall into the same category in which you place yourself and who share no connection with you other than being a Duke grad and loving Duke and its sports teams.

Ahhh the good ole “ I went to duke or (insert university name here) I’m smarter than you and had my eyes opened and enlightened because professors that have no clue about the real world told me what to believe”

Ah, the good ole "I am super defensive all the time and get CRAZY upset and judgmental when someone just MENTIONS the school this entire forum is dedicated to, even when they place no any value or judgement on that."

That’s it man you got it! Sometimes I believe your time would be better spent just being the perv on the main board and never coming here

i dont necessarily agree that the anthem/flag represents the troops, the armed services each have their own flag....i look at the flag/anthem as representation of pride in ones country.......many arent feeling so prideful due to outright social injustices taking place and many refusing to see it and acknowledge it.....when an olympic athlete wins a gold medal, they hoist the flag and play the anthem, why????...pride of country imo, that moment to me has nothing to do with troops, wars, homeless vets, vets committing suicide, maimed soldiers, etc....

Excuse me but am just another knucklehead. Just wondering what was the sacrifice? When he started this his NFL career was already in decline. He had made over eleven million dollars. He no longer risks injury on the football field. Loved and adored by media and gets more publicity than when he was playing. Has received all kinds of awards. Now he has signed a lucrative deal with Nike. Had he not kneeled he would just be another washed up NFL player that no one would give a second thought to.

...and the even better, “I’m going to dismiss academics because I’m insecure about people who are more knowledgeable than me.” Professors spend just as much time in the so-called “real” world than the next person. Simply a baseless, tired stereotype put forth by people without the sophistication to make more substantive arguments. BRAVO to you sir! If you want “out of touch with reality” look no further than the current administration and the people zealously misled by them.

and also the right to disagree......the flag/anthem isnt the troops, isnt wars.....its what this country represents, its ideals, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness imo and to many its not living up to that representation

Ongoing Political posts on this board want to make me find a new Duke message board. This board used to be the shiznit.
It was definitely a better board when I was calling Show rich, he was ripping me, guys were arguing over who was transferring, how many one and dones we should take...

With all this built up anger going on, we need to use this energy and have another Wrestling Thread. We could have some real classic matches.

The headliner would be IKC vs VA Blue devil, with special guest Mac McClung as the Referee. OH YEAH!!!!

what and who are "real americans"
Don’t let that “chump” bother you. He’s just your run of the mill dupe and ignoramus. He likes to come on here and yell the loudest and thinks it passes muster as debate.

He knows about as much as the average fourth grader.

As someone who went there and had professors from both ends of the spectrum, it's a foolish assumption to make when you say they have no experience in the real world. For most professors, that real world experience made them the best suited to educate. I had professors that worked directly for congressional conservatives and professors that were actively involved in the civil rights movement.

Perhaps, instead of condemning academia, some should take advantage of it. They may learn something.

Most of the professors I had were conservative. The most powerful part of their teaching was they encouraged liberals to be liberal understanding that having differing viewpoints will typically educate both sides.

Just FYI.

Easy, tiger. I never said anything about being a spokesperson for Duke grads on this board. Over many years of political discourse on various Duke boards (DBR, TDD, TDF, etc) I've found that Duke grads tend to lean left. Not ALL Duke grads, obviously... Stephen Miller, after all, is a Duke grad, and I've had some real knock down, drag out fights with Indoor66... and that's why I said "we usually tend" and not "all Duke grads etc etc."

I’m not condemning academia I just hate this liberal brainwashing bull that most universities have went to. FYI I went and to and graduated college so..
