Yeah, seems they place you in color categories. Instead of matching specifically. It would probably cost-prohibitive for them to make gear for all the schools that matched the PMS colors exactly.

I was annoyed but then read that our uniforms have not always matched the official PMS color. Maybe rarely.

The new UA uniforms under Spurrier initially were too red, but they corrected it later.

I don’t see a problem. Carolina garnet has changed so much through the years. Does anyone know the exact color?

There is an official PMS color provided on the school website. How many times have our uniforms have actually matched that color? Probably not many.
As I posted in the other thread, getting fabric to match the official pantone color is nearly impossible. And nobody cares but us. We all have tons of Gamecock shirts, hats, flags, backpacks, drinking glasses, notebooks, Christmas ornaments, car tags, and every other piece of paraphernalia under the sun, across all manufacturers, but I doubt the reds match exactly on any of them.

To my understanding Nike started with their base color ‘Crimson’ and adjusted it to a unique Garnet. Like Under Armour started with Cardinal and adjusted to ‘Garnet’.

In the 80s with ‘Russell Athletic’ I think the jerseys were generic red and we just called it garnet. So….

I already saw the new gear in person and bought some. It’s clearly not Alabama Crimson. It’s g2g.

They were cardinal. Russell had three “reds”, scarlet, maroon, and cardinal. I sold uniforms for 20 years. Made in Alabama. Best quality of uniforms ever made.
