I am huge Nick Weatherspoon fan. I think he brings us a different energy and plays harder than 99% of the other players in the country. I think he will completely change our team in a positive way when he comes back.

Something has bothered me for several games now - He is suspended, sitting on the bench and secretly getting on his phone in his right pocket several times throughout each game(appears to be sending a text).

He has already put a damper on his team for two seasons now and he chooses to not fully focus on the game. This may seem petty to some of you, but I think he should give his team his full attention and be the leader that we know he can be.

Responding to texts from Dee Bost who’s getting in-game strategy advice from Stansbury.

It is really petty and if say you would be totally focused on a game versus New Orleans if it were you then you would be lying. He is not on active roster yet so I have no problem with him texting during a game. If he was on the active roster and texting that would be different.

It would be a better look if he left the phone in the locker room... but it’s not the end of the world that he’s sneaking texts from the bench.

Nick in text: Hey Lamar. How is Yugoslavia this time of year? Is basketball over there as competitive as the SEC?

Lamar text response: yeah bro. Come on over. These Slavian girls are the tits.

1- if he is sneaking in texts, he isnt doing a good job since multiple viewers noticed.
2- he is seriously stronger looking than last year. Impressive- hope it translates to even more on ball pressure.

3- how anyone is arguing that its OK for people on the bench to text during the game is beyond me. What the 17 is happening to this world? Put the damn phone down. No players, coaches, grad students, managers, or anyone else who is associated with the team and on the bench or row behind the bench(its still the damn bench) should be texting during games.

I’m not saying I’d be totally focused but If i were the coach, he wouldn’t have his phone on the bench......at all.

Is this rhetorical? Cause if you’re asking me, heck I didn’t even know it was going on.

Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Off topic, this team has a chance to be really good defensively when Nick gets back.

Seriously? I’d broom her *** quick. Find you a girl who is constantly asking you to check for score updates and your life will be happier.

Would be funny if he wasn’t actually doing well for the Westchester Knicks in the G-League...averaging 20 points 4 rebs and 7 assist so far which isn’t quite bad IMO

I would imagine Nick's rope is pretty short at this point and with this team

improving like it is he can't affort any type of misstep in my opinion. If I were Nick I would get very, very focused.

The StateUofMS has successfully generated an opinion that the board can unite behind even more than wanting to redo the JoMo decision. That is a serious red flag she is waving for him.

it's 2019 it is not as big of a deal as all the blue hairs are making it out to be.

Yup- its 2019 and athletes as well as management should still be expected to pay attention to the game when on the bench. This could mean literally watching the game, talking strategy, receiving medical aid, tracking stats, and many other things.
What isnt listed and doesnt fall under 'many other things', is being on a phone for personal use.

Bad optics at best.

I wish I had a clip of the time out from what I believe was Bost's last season, and Jarvis come over to him during a TO to say something, and without any hesitation... Dee looks over at him with the camera right on him and say "Man, shut the 17 up!"

I was both stunned and laughing at the same time. Quite a team leader there...

I guess it depends on if he was simply checking a text and texting back....OR was he constantly on there scrolling through Twitter, Facebook, playing a game....big difference.

Yes there is a big difference between those two things. And yet both are stupid to do and shouldnt happen. One just shouldnt happen more than the other shouldnt happen.

Its a simple expectation- you support your team when you are on the bench, especially when your dumbass potentially cost the team success and wins. You stay engaged and active the entire time. All 2 hours- you cheer and support.

I cant believe this is even a discussion. The world is so 17ing upside down at this point. Luddites unite!

Yeah it would be a shame if he tried to mentor some of our younger players. But I’m sure texting his side chick is more productive and important.

Let's break this down:

1. What is a Christmas Tree exhibit extravaganza?
2. Christmas before Thanksgiving, c'mon man.
3. It sounds like an event you meander about. Why in the world would she get mad if you check the scores?

Relax guys I have it on good authority that Nick was simply placing an Uber Eats order for Chik Fil-a and was treating the rest of the players to some chicken sandwiches for their hard earned win. Nick is a great christian just like the rest of you hypocrites.

It’s worse than petty. Especially since he’s proven he can multi task by taking an exam during a game he was playing in.

BTW, did you post this while at work?

I bet if he spent as much time studying as he does on the phone he would not have had a tutor.

I’m 37. I play on my phone a lot.

But we aren’t talking abt an 8 hour day. We are talking abt twice a week for 2 hrs with thousands of people in attendance and more on camera watching.

It’s not acceptable and never should be.
