WILL BROKE TANEYHILL’S RECORD??!!

For those too young to know or remember:

Steve Taneyhill is gone, but his accomplishments from one mythical night in Starkville, Miss., live on in the record books.

On Oct. 14, 1995, Taneyhill and his South Carolina teammates defeated Mississippi State, 65-39, in the most potent display of offense in the program's history. Eighteen records school, Southeastern Conference and national were set in the game, including: *An NCAA record completion rating of 87 percent (38 completions in 44 attempts) by Taneyhill. *A South Carolina record 473 passing yards. *A USC record 652 yards of total offense. *A school-record 17 straight completions. *An SEC record-tying 104 combined points.

Notice at the bottom about ranking implications. It only discusses UK falling down and potentially out of the top 25 but no mention that MSU has made a valid argument to be put in.

I believe the graphic on the screen last night said he broke Matt Corral’s record, which was set last season.

Not sure that 5-3 with losses to Memphis and a bad LSU team gets us in the top 25. But a win over Arkansas next week and we should be in the conversation. I really doubt UK falls all the way out either.

I was working grip for a private broadcast of that game for SC. All I remember of the game is us getting killed and then I immediately went to Midnight Madness at the Hump and watching the first practice of the basketball team that went to the Final Four

Not sure. But if last season was a free year due to COVID, then yes. For some reason I thought that only applied to the spring sports, though.

2020 doesn't count towards anyone's eligibility. Will can still play 3 more after this season.

If you are ranking strictly by resume, that Memphis loss is still disqualifying. If you are ranking by how good a team is now, we are a top 25 team. Not sure how most voters do it. I suspect they mostly rank by resume except for the few schools they actually keep up with.

Is that Rogers’ normal grip on the ball? No laces?
I remember when Leach was at other stops one of the things he preaches is for his quarterbacks to throw with or without laces. He doesn't want the qb fumbling around trying to find the laces before they throw.
