If they “couldn’t anticipate” that a team might have the highest winning percentage but not the most wins, the Illinois AD and his colleagues can’t do basic math.
Everyone agreed to the rules, so the conference is right to stick to them. They should have done the same with football.
"Stick it to them"
Not really what the conference commish is supposed to do unless there is some violation or code of conduct issues.

The bottom line with the whole deal is that everything Warren's administration has touched so far has turned in to a sh## show. Time for a change.
Obviously they were anticipating the possibility that teams would not play the same number of games. If that wasn’t on the table there would have been no reason to agree to go by winning percentage in the first place. They didn't anticipate one team choosing not to reschedule as many games as they could. Should a team that went 8-0 win over a team that went 19-1?
If the "rules" including trying to play all the games, then the "rules" weren't followed.
Like they would have beaten Minnesota? It's kind of a silly argument. Michigan missed out on playing another game vs Penn State and Northwestern.
They would've beaten both those teams. Quit crying Illinois.
However, The Big Ten should be accountable for its uneven scheduling. Teams like Illinois and Michigan should've been playing twice anyway on the season. If that happens, this argument never comes up.

You know their losses in conference were against teams that they were favored to beat, by a lot.
And Indiana, the 3rd team they didn't play. When Minnesota had their whole roster, they were a legit top 25 team. They've played basically the last 3 weeks without four main contributors and two significant starters.
Neither Penn State or Northwestern were the same caliber team.
in a 14 team league I don't believe you can play each team twice and stay within the the ncaa limits of regular season games allowed

You can't, but every year it seems like the Big Ten schedule makers purposely go out of their way to make sure the "perceived top 3 or 4" only have to play each other once.

How often does the conference not schedule tOSU and Michigan twice? And of all season‘s not this one.
Early predicted preseason polls had Illinois and Ioway the top 2 or 3 yet they only played in iowa city and not Champaign...
michigan v OSU - since the BIG expanded to 14 teams
2014-15 - twice
2015-16 - once
2016-17 - once
2017-18 - twice
2018-19 - once
2019-20 - twice
2020-21 - once
the schedules are pretty easy to find on this thing they call the internet - might be wise to take a minute to check before regurgitating nonsensical conspiracy theories
So is It a conspiracy theory that Illinois and Ioway were the top 2 or 3 teams predicted in conference before the schedules we made out?

Josh Whitman does have a point.
He is advocating on behalf of the Illini basketball squad as he should.
Sorry for the kids but they can fix all this by winning the tournament.

the 4 teams in the BIG this year - Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue
each teams schedule against the other teams in the top 4:
MICH --- played each team once
Illinois -- played each team once
Iowa --- played each team once
Purdue -- played each team once

Their coach IMO has purposefully put a chip on his team's shoulders to motivate them to win the B1G tourney. I wonder what kind of contract incentive he has for winning the regular season conference title and/or the B1G tourney?Best way to do it is Co-Champs. Problem fixed.

Don't forget that Michigan ducked Illinois the first time (even though somehow the courageous women's team was able to play) and changed the game from road to home and got destroyed...and also somehow could not reschedule 3 other games.
I don't think so either.i agree with this - I just don’t think the big, when plotting out the next seasons BB schedule, has some nefarious scheme it is planning

the last 6 years the top 2 preseason (AP) big ten teams played each other twice in the regular season 3 times and once 3 times
the lengths some people will go to to convince themselves that some evil plot exists is amazing
Unless your a Michigan Player or fan.Best way to do it is Co-Champs. Problem fixed.
Unless your a Michigan Player or fan.
They would have the same argument as the Indiana players/fans in football.
Illinois receives Mercy.
Does Michigan receive Justice?
Both must be in balance for the problem to be fixed.
You've only obscured it.
