Congrats on the win last night. Cal is a heck of a coach and your guy Knox is a stud.

If we could ever figure out how to play a complete game we would be a good team.

Hope to see more games against you in the future..

Goodluck heading towards March.
Didn't realize how good the atmosphere was at WVU till last night. Place was rocking.

Welcome classy virgin! It's not always easy to come to an opposing teams board after a tough game so I give you props for that. You have a hell of a coach and a future hof good luck the rest of the way

You guys played a hell of a game! Win or lose this is the kind of fight UK needed.

Knox played a pretty complete game. It's fantastic seeing him gain some confidence in one and 2 dribble moves! One of the more impressive performances of any player in the Cal era. Also loved the pass SGA made late in the second half, that's the kind of court vision I've been waiting too see!

Overall this game was what UK needed. Almost everyone was involved, the energy/effort was different in this one.

Great game. Huggs is a heck of a coach. He takes average basketball players and turns them into gritty ball players that will make it difficult for teams to score with defensive pressure.

I haven't watched a lot of your games. In the first half, y'all looked unbeatable. In the second--- couldn't hit the ocean from the beach.
I know the defense and physicality is consistent, but which half more closely reflected the offense?

Agree with everything said in this post.

Now then, that being said: Adolph B. Calipari is the single-most coolest name I've seen on Rupp Rafters!!! Great job in choosing a name! Hats off to ya!
Geez. And here I thought IndyAdolph was a cool name.......you, sir, have a Blue-Blood name!!

Classy post.
I hope Huggins gets the issues cleaned up in short order. The talent is there, he just has to tune it up. Plus, the more Wva wins, the better our win looks.
But there is definitely something to build on, you guys beat Virginia and most people believe that they are top 3 in the country.

Maybe this game will be the turning point for this team. They seemed different, like a light finally came on for them. The Vandy game during the ‘03-‘04 season was the beginning of that long run for that team, maybe this game will be the same for this team.

It was a great college basketball game, no matter who won. Of course, had we lost I would have been sorely disappointed, but it was a great game. Your Mountaineers fought hard and scrapped to the bitter end. I think the intensity on defense exerted at the beginning of big games, like Kansas and UK, hits your guys hard about 5 minutes into the 2nd half. They kind of seem to hit a wall. They also seemed to be playing not to lose during that stretch. But at the end, it was a heavy weight fight for the last 7-8 minutes, with contested shots being made on both ends of the floor. As I say, it was a great game. Thanks for coming over and offering congratulations. I'll be rooting for your Mountaineers in the B12 the rest of the season. Love Huggins. He's a class act.

Honestly, I think one of your problems is Carter. Obviously, he is a huge part of what makes you good, but in the games I've seen he's either shooting too many threes when he isn't hitting, or he's not shooting enough when he is hitting. I think Huggy got on him in one of the timeouts about taking shots too quickly and he went a good spell where he passed up shots, and he was hitting in that game. Also, Bolden shot a couple ill-advised shots. I think you are also too guard-oriented. Just a couple observations, with admittedly limited knowledge.

We are extremely guard oriented. We were set to return our true big in Elijah Macon but he left early to go play pro ball overseas. That left us really with one in Sags. He is a heck of a defender but when he gets into foul trouble we have a huge drop off as we did last night.

After Saturday night, we have blown a 17 point lead on Texas AM, 17 point led on Texas Tech, 16 point lead on Kansas, and I believe a 17 point lead on you guys. We just simply can't figure out to play a complete game. The only other loss that we aren't up double digits was at TCU and we were up 8 on them in the first half.

It seems all of the others tend to look for Carter a bit too much down the stretch and he ends up having to take the majority of the shots. Carter isn't a true scorer. He is best in transition off of a turnover.

As a fan, its been frustrating as hell to watch. We feel like we are so much better. When we play a full game we can beat any team in the Country, but when we have those ridiculous brain fart lapses for 10 minutes a game, we can lose to almost anyone in the country....

Bill Russel once said that the pressing team expends far more energy than the team being pressed. You need quality depth down to about 9 to 10 players to make it work against good teams. Otherwise your best players will get gassed if you overplay them too much. If you don't, your best players spend less time on the court than the opposing teams best players.

This strategy works against inferior talent but not so much against the good teams, as evidenced by UK and Kansas. UK wound up with about 21 turnovers in the game. UK averages about 17 turnovers per game when not being pressed. Was all that expended energy worth an additional 4 turnovers? WVU's players looked gassed in the second half. They scored 48 points in the first half on hot shooting, but only 28 in the second half on about 32% shooting.

I watch a bunch of WV games. You guys need to get some production from Ahmed and West needs to find his shot. Also Allen needs to be on the court more for his scoring. Huggins should bench Miles insert Bolden into the lineup.
Good luck rest of the way. BEAT KANSAS.

The Full-Court press is a tough thing to do game in and game out. As much as I love Huggins, I always wonder why he solely relies on it. Teams with good (and fast) guards can get through it, and it just leaves you vulnerable in the half court. Not only that, as we saw in the 2nd Half of the game this weekend, it only works off of a made shot or made free throw. So now you have all this energy being exerted by simply deploying your game plan (constant pressing), and you may not even be able to run it very often due to poor offense. That 2010 team had one hell of a 3-2 zone defense to fall back on. Do you guys still run a lot of zone? Honestly I haven't watched many non-UK college basketball games this year as I normally do.

We occasionally go into a 1-3-1 but we haven't much success with it this year. Huggs says our guys don't know how to guard. He runs the press because he knows it's the only way he can win consistently in Morgantown and gives us the only chance we have at Big 12 Championship. Where you guys get a half a dozen 5 star guys a year, we may get 1, every 5 years. Huggs takes mediocre players and makes them system guys that gets wins. Granted, I don't know if that is just because we can't get 5 star guys or that Huggs just look for certain qualities in recruits and could care less about stars.

I will say this - after the Louisville fiasco, he did say the following quote:

“I told Shane (Lyons, WVU’s Director of Athletics) one time ‘You need to fire me for the guys I’ve recruited or pay me more for winning with these guys.’ We don’t have those top whatever guys. We go get guys who we believe are going to be successful in what we do. For the most part they have. Our guys are more in line with ‘Let’s go work and watch a lot of games and see who fits where.'”

He also said that he could never pay a kid or break a rule to come to play for him because he could not take having a kid have something on him and going to work all day knowing that.

Maybe it's been discussed in another thread, but why is Huggy not already in the HOF? His resume seems to support it.

Seems like Carter controls the ball way too much. A very poor man's Trae Young.

Get that fixed before you go to AFH.
