NU sports has a quick video about it - nothing specific. I hope the snow didn't prevent any scouts or front office guys from getting out.

I saw the list of the NU athletes expected to participate (from the Trib):

Austin Carr, wide receiver

Chris Fitzpatrick, long snapper

Tom Hruby, linebacker

Joe Jones, linebacker

Jack Mitchell, kicker

Ifeadi Odenigbo, defensive lineman

C.J. Robbins, defensive lineman

Andrew Scanlan, wide receiver

Mike Shuler, wide receiver (2016 graduate)

Anthony Walker Jr., linebacker

How do they determine who participates? Some of the players listed weren't starters so I assume that their chances at making an NFL training camp are pretty slim.

I'm sure that Fitz allows any player that graduated with the program to participate in the NFL workouts, including walk-ons that barely saw the field. They're running the workout regardless for the players that have a realistic shot at making NFL rosters so there are limited (if any) additional costs, the coaches need bodies to rotate in on drills and give the "legit" prospects a blow, it's an interesting experience, and someday you'll be able to tell your kids - with legitimacy -that you worked out for "over 30 NFL teams". Who wouldn't after four years spent busting your hump in practices?

E.g. Hruby will be a Navy Seal vet who worked out for the NFL while obtaining a degree at Northwestern; maybe he runs a 4.5 40 and gets a UFDA deal to a NFL team to help with kickoff coverage during the preseason. Stranger stuff has happened: like Cleveland and the Cubs winning championships in the same 12 month period as Northwestern winning a NYC bowl game & making March Madness. Who knows.

Like Joseph Jones getting a shot in an NFL camp on the back of an unexpectedly fast 40.

They just updated this info:

Representatives from 25 teams watched 50 players work out at Northwestern from multiple area schools, including nine Wildcats. Al Golden, the tight ends coach with the Lions, was in attendance at the indoor pro day on FieldTurf.

» DL Ifeadi Odenigbo (6-2 7/8, 261), the Big Ten leader in sacks last season, stood on all of his combine numbers, but did go through positions drills.

» LB Anthony Walker (6-0 3/4, 239) went through position drills after standing on all of his combine numbers. He had a good workout.

» WR Austin Carr (6-0 1/4, 202) ran the 40 in 4.61 and 4.62 seconds, had a 33.5-inch vertical, a 9-8 broad jump, a 4.07-second short shuttle, a 6.70-second three-cone, and 16 bench lifts. He's a projected late Day-3 prospect or priority free agent.

Love him as a player, but don't think Walker did himself too many favors. Still think a year at NU and slimming down to 230 or so would have been good for him.
