It was a pretty good first outing, really happy for the kid and liked what I saw. But let’s not go overboard here. Don’t be typical Yinzers and then after one preseason game that this guy is gonna be in the Hall of Fame. That’s what happened with Kenny small hands, Pickett.
Hopefully, he can do the same next week and then get to sit back and watch Rogers all year. Maybe if he’s lucky he can get a couple series when they are getting blown out or something.

As I recall, there was one preseason with the Steelers where Pickett led a TD drive every drive he played. So yeah, let's not get carried away.

I think it's fortunate for Allar that he's not expected to put in meaningful time at all his rookie year, unlike Pickett.

HOF? I'm just hopeful that he can be a solid backup next year and maybe compete to start

All this game showed was how much Franklin was to blame.

Allar had a chance to pass Howard with Howard’s performance but didn’t quite do it. Wonder if he gets the start next week with better players.

JMO--the plan is Aaron starts and Drew is QB3 for 2026. The only questions are:
1--does Mason win the backup role? I think he did by default yesterday
2--do the Steelers keep 4 QBs? Seems unlikely

Considering that they have drafted three o-linemen in the first round since 2023 and a second round center in 2024, their o-line is really bad.
Broderick Jones look terrible yesterday. Between the Kenny Pickett pick and the Jones pick, you can see why Pittsburgh is still stuck in mediocrity.
You just can’t miss on first round picks as often as they do.

Also, going back to Jones, it seems as if every one of their first round picks has missed significant time in their rookie seasons, including the first round tackle from ASU this year who now basically has missed all of training camp.

When you look at their roster on paper, you would think that they have a lot of good players. However, many players on that roster are big underachievers. Just based on how many first and second picks they’ve spent on o-linemen since the 2023 draft, they should have one of the best o-lines in the NFL, but in reality they stink.

Johnson in the second round last year looks like a wasted pick, Roman Wilson in the third the year before that is another bad one.
Jones was the first rounder in 23, though the rest of that draft has turned out to be very good. Pickett was in 22 with Pickens after him. Harris and Greene in the first and third the year before that, and then no first round and Chase Claypoole the year before that.

Just lots of misses in the first three rounds.

Wilson might be okay (too early to say) still but I agree with you overall. Khan might need to go though it's not all on him.

There was a play in yesterday’s game in which Johnson ran a sweep play to the right and had the angle on the tackler and just had no burst to get around him. That play right there told me that he will be cut. He has looked nothing like the workhorse running back that he was at Iowa in 2024.

Wilson to me is a UFL receiver and nothing more. He shows me absolutely nothing. They’ve been waiting to get something out of him for going on three seasons now which they’re never going to get. That team has too many charity cases like him.

There's a lot but Wilson looked decent enough in the first preseason game and Aaron's talk highly of him
Tomlin hated him which stunted his development

I see he has regressed back to his usual self. Ever was excited after his first preseason game performance. I think now, not so much. Lots of work to do to become an NFL quarterback.

Yes. We said he has to get rid of it fast. That was a back up offensive line for sure but they were going against back up back up defensive players by the jets when they were playing the second half .
He has to learn to get rid of it.

OMG, did you see his Oline? It was literally a sieve and the TE group and Wr group were ummmm not good.

I actually thought that he acquitted himself fairly well considering that he had absolutely no protection and also his receivers dropped several catchable passes.

If the Steelers don’t improve their offensive line from top to bottom real fast, Patrick Mahomes at his best would look bad.

The ball to Lake McRee was a high level throw. His footwork was still much better than during his time at Penn State. He played well again. I would have been happy if he didn't throw a single pass in a preseason game this year--he's way ahead of schedule.

Damar Hamlin with an interception for the Bills. Cleveland QB was Shadour Sanders.

Even if he went to Pitt we should all want him to succeed.
