Read the title of the thread. That criteria has been what most have been talking about this entire time.

You may be the first one to bring up actual recruiting rankings. Maybe not. I dont care to go back and look, but most have used the draft as the criteria ITT.
Why not look at his previous stops?

Outside of Nebraska, most of the high draft picks under Rhule are players he inherited/committed to a previous staff.

Really weird hill to die on

He never stayed long enough anywhere to have very many players even eligible to be drafted. That’s kind of the deal here now as well. I’m discarding his first class because of the late start recruiting and the number of reaches he had to make. I’m not pumping sunshine about it but I think to be fair we’re going to have to wait at least one more year to judge his evaluation and recruiting classes. The first one sucked for sure.

There are a lot of hoops to jump thru in order to avoid the obvious conclusion that he's just not very good at it.

His most highly touted recruiting win left and his best assistants always leave.

Why all the bickering about recruiting? When it comes to our poor showings in the NFL Draft, for me this reflects:

1. Terrible development under Rhule (and Frost). Many players even regress under him (Lenhardt, etc)
2. Terrible hiring of assistant coaches by Rhule (the few good ones leave)

I don't point to his recruiting as the key issue. He has brought in enough HS and portal talent for a good coach to develop them into draft-worthy players. One might say he has 'struck out' in the portal. Has he? Or can he simply not develop the talent at the same level many coaches do?

In order to arrive at a valid conclusion one had to consider the variables. It’s obvious that if a guy only stays at a school for 4 years that he would have had roughly 3 times as many draftable players who were recruited by the previous coach. It’s just math. It doesn’t involve jumping through hoops.

Again, I was responding to someone who said Frost's recruiting was much better than Rhule's. My push back was, we don't know yet.

Rhule’s previous stops has nothing to do with that.

Hopefully development steps up with the new hires. It’s pretty obvious we haven’t seen enough yet. EJ and Evans are exceptions. Obviously Boerk had a really good start before he transferred. I expect our draft numbers will be better next year.

Correct and you want to dismiss it because you claim Rhule doesn’t have any recruits old enough to judge it yet, while you conveniently ignore portal players. So I just gave you another set of data that in fact says the same thing, which is that Frost, so far, recruited better than Rhule.
Where have I ignored portal players? You seem to be under the impression that I believe Rhule is a much better recruiter than Frost. I dont even know which one is better yet using the draft criteria (which again, is what everyone here is talking about except for you now at this very moment).

Obviously Rhule is a better coach, but recruiter? Need 2 more years before I will determine that.

Mostly because he has 2 fewer recruiting classes. I would imagine (hopefully) Rhule will have a couple more players drafted within the next 2 years.

Again, we'll see.

No, you really don't.

You're having to betray common sense and the most obvious variables to pretend he isn't terrible at it.

You might want to cherry pick his last class to throw out while you're jumping through hoops if you really want to drive your point home. Because it sucked worse. A lot worse!

That and both had the same number of draft picks.

The NFL draft tracker in that link broke down picks by team. Nigeria 1, Nebraska 1. BTW Iowasucks had 7.
I guess that proves that Iowa doesn’t suck. 🤔 There will probably be about a half dozen or so more Iowa players that sign free agent NFL contracts.

Conservatively speaking , there's at least 250?? probably more defensive backs and that's including safeties on NFL rosters , and I think what, about 4 or 5, are white? Feels like swimming upstream to me but he is an athletic freak, and few teams have drafted better the last few seasons than Da Bears, so i'll concede they know (a lot) more than I do about this. It just seemed odd.
Cooper DeJean for the Eagles is a stud d-back.

You're right. The 1 year Rhule and Frost went head-to-head in recruiting within the same conference (AAC) was the 2016 class.

Rhule had the better class. Therefore he's a better recruiter than Frost.

Thanks for bringing that up.

Because the first class Rhule took was a last minute class full of reaches and guys Frost was recruiting. The 2018 draft class is where the rubber hits the road and a meaningful conclusion can be reached. Those are guys Rhule had a year to evaluate and build relationships with. 2018 draft group will be all his.

There exists no job where you can't be accurately evaluated after 3 years.

Simple as.

The excuses will be endless for Rhule apologists. Next up "well he wasn't recruiting for Aurich and Wade's system and he's the first coach to ever face a modicum of adversity"

The Rhule lovers act like he is recruiting some super specialized player for each position.

They use his Baylor stint (which people forget, a team that went 7-6 the year before his arrival) as the bedrock for everything pertaining to him.

Take out Rhule's worst and best year, and you see exactly who he is, a decent, maybe good AAC coach

Like I said before...he is the type of coach that Illinois or Purdue would hire. And in 5 years they would fire him after winning 20 games and maybe 8 conference games.

I love that we hired a coach that failed in the NFL where you can hand pick your roster...only to also watch him fail in college where you can now hand pick your roster.

If you cant figure out how 2 more years recruiting to Nebraska CAN (not saying will) make a difference when comparing to Frost and the number of NFL draftees, I cant help you.

Rhule out recruited Frost via recruiting rankings when those two were in the AAC the same year (2016).

If you're using # of players drafted to the NFL. Rhule still wins.

Frost: 11
UCF: 3
Nebraska: 8

Rhule: 18
Temple: 9
Baylor: 9
Nebraska: 0

Again, this doesn't mean Rhule is good. It just means Rhule was/is better than Frost.
