speak for yourself. I love the uniqueness of the first down stop. I hate that pro-sports and TV has to be the leader in the sports that came first. There's got to be other ways to deal with the game length. Reply length being one. This would be great!!!!
They want to shorten the length of the game?
LESS COMERCIALS like back in the day?
So take away plays that will change the game is played so that you can have those $100M paychecks. They want to shorten the length of the game?

The first tweet in these posts is repetitive but the second gives extra info.
They might shorten the overall length of the game by shaving off stopped clock time between plays. But they won't shorten the length of time spent in commercials. That will only ever increase. They want to shorten the length of the game?
LESS COMERCIALS like back in the day?
Exactly. And watch, after not too long, the overall game time will go back to what it was because they will cram more commercial-time into them. This move to reduce down-time between plays is probably just a prelude to doing that and all the "better TV product" is just a BS cover story. So take away plays that will change the game is played so that you can have those $100M paychecks.
So it’s going to be like a WWE show:
A three hour show with 40 minutes of matches while the other 2 hours, 20 minutes is in commercial?
Ahh, the magical - and arbitrary - 2 MINUTES in American football. Are we going to the goofy 2 minute warning clock stoppage for commercials too?
How about in the first and 3rd quarters, but not the 2nd and 4th. Same for the incomplete pass change.Extracting the four proposals under consideration from @rutgersguy1's post above, I'm ok with getting rid of the clock stoppage after first downs for 56 minutes of the game, but preserving that feature during the last 2 minutes of each half. I like giving teams a little more time in the most dramatic portions of the game, as it's just fun to watch, but I like saving time elsewhere. I like 1 and 2 also, as well as #4, except I'd prefer the clock to stop in the last 2 minutes of each half. And if they really want to shorten games, why not go with a 35 second clock?
1) Prohibiting consecutive timeouts (ie icing kicks)
2) No untimed down at end of 1Q/3Q
3) Clock runs after 1st downs except inside of 2 mins in a half
4) Clocks runs on incompletions once ball is spotted
I'm confused - why would anyone care if the clock stops or not at the end of the 1st/3rd quarters, since play just resumes in the next quarter? It only matters in the 2nd/4th.How about in the first and 3rd quarters, but not the 2nd and 4th. Same for the incomplete pass change.
Shortens the game, less so when it impacts the game the most...
I was referring to extending the last 2 minute guidance to the full 2nd and 4th quarters. So clock doesn't stop for first downs and incompletions in Q1 and Q3, but does in Q2 and Q4.I'm confused - why would anyone care if the clock stops or not at the end of the 1st/3rd quarters, since play just resumes in the next quarter? Well, I will say it does get quite tedious sitting in the stands. Touchdown/extra point, commercial, kickoff, commercial, 6 or 7 plays commercial. Sometimes I wonder if it would be worth it to just jump on the field and bum rush the ref holding the commercial clock? I swear sitting in those stands, 3 minutes feels like a lifetime lost.So less BTN money?
Can't cheer for a $100m a year to Rutgers Athletics and condemn commercials.
Gotcha. I like the idea of the last 2 minutes, as that will definitely shorten the game more, but still provide good drama at the end of each half - could consider having it be the last 4 minutes of each half, I guess, but don't see the point in the whole 2/4Q. Just my opinion on it...I was referring to extending the last 2 minute guidance to the full 2nd and 4th quarters. Long as we're all wishing for stuff, I wish they'd eliminate all the commercials completely. Commercials and commercial breaks suck.Gotcha. I love commercials. More thought/work goes into the average commercial than an average entire show. I read that on the internet somewhere, so it must be true. Can't we have commercials with hookers and blow in them, as well as commercials selling hookers and blow for the low low price of three easy payments of $149.99 - but wait, there's more!Long as we're all wishing for stuff, I wish they'd eliminate all the commercials completely. The schools can sell hookers and blow to fund sports instead. We'd wind up with more fans and they'd all be way happier most of the time, too. Win win.
Don't forget coming out of the 3 minute media timeout, then the booth signals they want to take another look at the play, so another endless replay timeout...so after the replay they respot the ball, line up, call timeout...Well, I will say it does get quite tedious sitting in the stands. The official in the red shirt - most hated person on the field (unless we're playing PSU, of course)...Well, I will say it does get quite tedious sitting in the stands. I hope that you realize that every football game that you watch has an average of about 15 minutes of actual plays occuring. You're arguing over nothing. And the games often take over 3.5 hours. In that sense, football, particularly college football, can be one of the most ponderous games there is, with under 10% of the time alotted for actual action. You're arguing around the edges. So take away plays that will change the game is played so that you can have those $100M paychecks.

I want more time for come backs. More strategery.Gotcha. Don't see #1 being a huge time waster, especially at end of half or end of game. Guess that every little thing adds up, but #1 seems to be small potatoes.Extracting the four proposals under consideration from @rutgersguy1's post above, I'm ok with getting rid of the clock stoppage after first downs for 56 minutes of the game, but preserving that feature during the last 2 minutes of each half. Great point, although some might not like some of the potential outcomes. For example, in most of Europe, most people watch soccer matches via subscription services that ain't cheap. All these changes just for "TV". How about removing the TV timeouts and force "TV" to find alternate ways to advertise.. akin to what soccer does.

Next step after that is going to a running clock and adding time on at the end of the halves for injury & stoppage time, a la metric futbol.Ehhhh.
The one that bugs me is letting the clock run after incompletions. That's kinda dumb.
