Some of you are following this story, but most probably don't know much about him yet. That could change soon. Dante is a 6'11 230# five-star baseline player from Wichita. He is currently ranked as the #2 center in the 2020 class, and #11 overall player. There has been talk that he wants to reclassify to 2019. His length is considered an elite carrying tool because he has long arms and a quick vertical leap. His forte is rim protection and shot blocking, but scouting reports say his offensive game inside the paint has made a lot of progress this year.

I bring this up now because Cal needs baseline players, and Dante is a possible reclassifier. Dante's favorite schools are thought to be UK, Kansas, and LSU. But Kansas and especially LSU are in trouble with the Dawkins scandal. Kansas' current class ranks 55th in the country, and the media is all over Bill Self for weak recruiting and declining program management. Will Wade's suspension yesterday would seem to take LSU out of Dante's recruitment. So this looks like an opportunity for Cal.

Dante has a committable offer from UK. Cal visited Dante in Wichita in September. Something good could happen here for UK. For those who have followed him, what do you think of Dante's game?

Seems like a perfect fit and the most logical, so he’ll probably end up anywhere but here.

LSU was a prominent school in his recruitment but have to wonder if he winds up at a place without ‘inducements.’ We’ll see.

They say he’s raw offensively but could come in and be good defensively .

I think we will have a big man from either reclass or grad transfer ( to go along with the 3 guys we have Mcdaniels and Brooks ) so he could be the guy . Or Todd or a grad transfer.

To that last point. We have a good chance to sign Isaiah Todd. But Todd weighs 195#. The comp for Todd is Wenyen Gabriel. Todd isn't a a low post player. We need another big rim protector with muscle. Dante could be that guy if he reclassifies.

You think we can pry him loose from the clutches of Big Burd?

First we need Montgomery and Richards back.

They should play like grown men next year.

Add Brooks next weekend.

Then get Dante to reclass and come in this summer.

Montgomery and Brooks at the 4. Richards and Dante at the 5.

Baseline problems solved.

If he reclassifies he is ours.

KU has a horrible track record with Sunrise Prep. Don’t know why, but despite being just two hours from Lawrence they have made zero inroads to that school.

He’s also not going to WSU. Remember, these Sunrise Prep guys are mostly from the Bahamas. It’s not as if they grew up in Wichita.

Keion Brooks is not a baseline player. Brooks weighs 185#. He and Whitney are the same size. PJ Washington outweighs Brooks by 40#.

If Montgomery and Richards come back, we need two more bigs. Dante could be one of those, and would be an important player for us next year. Tristan Enaruna could be another. McDaniels and Hurt are still uncommitted. Although many of our fans have decided that we won't be able to sign them, that's what they said about EJ Montgomery and Kevin Knox too.

I think we need some offensive beef down low. I think those are some of Cal's best teams, when we have someone to feed down on the block. I'd kill to have another DeMarcus Cousins, he was the most refined back to the basket freshman that I've seen, at least in a long time.

Never heard of him, but we could certainly use more men his size. if he does wind up at uk i hope he’s usable and not a totally raw project. we need bigs who can play next year.

Richard's is what he is. I dont ever expect him to do much.
Nick Richards will be a contributor. But for a 6'11 guy with his athleticism, Richards has not become the player he ought to be. He has improved defensively. But he still commits too many unnecessary fouls and gets beat too often. His offensive game has never developed. But the biggest problem is between his ears. He is a low IQ player. It says a lot that EJ Montgomery has soaked up most of the playing time since RT's injury. This, after Cal said Richards was a key to the season. Montgomery is a promising player, but most of that time should have gone to Richards. Cal is sending a message, but Richards hasn't responded.

I think they seem to go back and forth. In one moment, one of them will rise to the occasion and in the next they will be completely boneheaded. The hard part of it is that neither of them will be consistent, so you can't just lean on one or the other. If just one of them would give us entirely solid defense then we'd probably be fine, but right now we only get that in spurts from both of them.

I agree nick and EJ both had me steaming the first half against Fla. EJ looked like a completely different guy on UK decisive run.

I think they both have good abilities and good physical attributes, but they just both seem to turn off their brains at certain points and they get entirely lost. It shouldn't be happening to Nick as much as it does, but Montgomery still has some learning. I think he can improve a lot going into next year and as long as he keeps up the hustle he can be an asset.
