Sophomore Grayson I agree with. Wendell was very raw in year one.
It’s potential. He was bog for his age nba ready body and athleticism. His sophomore year no one was worried about him leaving because he was fading in and out but he could have left after his freshman year off his potential. That’s all the NBA cares about .

I enjoyed Mark and wish him well. No way we make the final four without him. I hate this week, but hopefully we get some good news.

This is Duke, where we are thrilled to get 2 years out of a 30th ranked guy in high school. I enjoyed Mark and wish him well. No way we make the final four without him. I hate this week, but hopefully we get some good news.
An hour ago, Jaime Jaquez announced his return to an already stacked UCLA for senior year. Ain’t being a Duke fan great?!

I went to the FSU game in Tally his junior year. His parents could not have been nicer. His girlfriend was one of the best looking people on the planet and it was all good. Without him we’d have 4 titles. He seemed like a cool guy when I met him and his parents were very nice.

that’s awesome.. my wife had a work training in Greensboro for a week his junior yr and I was bored so I went to walk around campus and ran into him and jack white, (I actually ended up running into the entire team while I was in the museum I’m assuming on way to practice) anyway we talked and I got a picture with them.. about a year later I decided to mail a copy of the picture to Duke and see if he’d autograph it and I got it back after his senior season ended. He’s one of if not my favorites from duke

His fiancé now is one of the all time duke smokes. Happy for him!

If he was a duke, he would have declared a year ago.
You guys already knew who was for sure declaring for Duke the minute they stepped on campus don’t know what all the being down is about . It happens . You get the best talent and you know what their intentions are out the gate. Nothing but the best for the young man .

You forgot to put your “imo” on your negativity blanket statement. And to be honest, if he was smart, he probably should have left after last year. No one was drafting this guy this year. He could have capitalized on the hot run in empty arenas he benefited from his sophomore year. Now he is going to be back for his senior season.

Its sad to see guys go every year. Expected or not. Sue me. I am very sensitive. :)
I stopped that a while back and really embraced the players that stay . Always excellent to get talent and watch them grow but the ones that stay and aren’t scared of the knew incoming freshman now that’s a Blue Devil. It’s going to be alright.

Shey, I’d add that it’s still awesome to watch a guy like Mark. When he came in he was extremely raw. The first nearly 2/3 of his freshman year he barely saw the court. He developed and worked his *** off. Had a great finish and then came back again to have an even better second year and totally earn his place in the draft. For every Steward or Duvall, we get a Mark and Luke. I wish they’d all stay 3 or 4, but I appreciate the hard work and growth of the guys who earn it. However long that takes.

I hope Moore comes back but he should probably go. Keels could move way up with a big year.
Agree on both. Tough decision for Wendell. He can make so much on NIL, can solidify a guaranteed first round spot in a weaker draft and graduate with more honors and hopefully another final 4, which improves his brand. He also is young for his class which helps him/us. Ultimately, I think he declares, but it’s not a slam dunk.

I'm curious...how does a player like Moore make a lot in NIL? He's not the face of this year's team, hardly a household name like Zion...Name Image and Likeness was meant to be about marketability...to put $$ in the pockets of players whose shirts or image the university was making money on...I think this is where the NCAA has gone awry. NIL is now just about paying players to stay in this case or to come to a program ( going wild in CFB)....probably a conversation for another thread...but would be interested in what people think the answer is.

The issue, imo, is the crazy money the nba is able to throw at these kids. Can’t blame them for taking it, even if it doesn’t seem like they’ll have a good career.
It would be very hard for me to tell my kid to not take the payday.

And, the other part is I’m selfish. I want them to stay to make Duke better.

These decisions do shape the college basketball landscape for next year. Timme is on the fence, as is Swarther at Gonzaga. Obv. guys like Chet and Banchero are gone.

Thank you, Mark, for playing with dignity and class. I never questioned your attitude or desire. Just wish for your sake you could have hit a FT at the end of your Duke career, after shooting with such confidence the rest of the season.

Going miss Mark. Great kid. Gave us his all. Good luck to him!

There have been very few players that have came through Duke that weren't high character kids. The only two I really didn't care for and wish they had never commited to Duke were Taylor King and Jalen Johnson. Taylor because he just had so many issues and Johnson because he used us. He should have just went overseas or the G-league. He really never wanted to go to Duke or any other program. He msy indeed had an injury but I feel he could have played. He just quit in my opinion. OFC

Great post.Really brings back the chills of him initiating the Wisconsin comeback, and ultimate title!!! As K said post-game, prior to inserting Grayson 2nd half: "We were dead in the water."

Grayson came in and went after it like a shark didn't he???!! BTW, heard his wife was a real looker! OFC
