I think with the schedule Iowa can definitely go 10-2 maybe better. As long as we get the lines on both side clicking with the new starters, maybe the transfer portal etc we could be a very solid team. I think we have our QB in Hellinski and we return about all of our RB’s and have great talent in the wings like Eppy etc but it’s not going to be easy to replace Max, Graves, Hurkett … and on the oline we have some work to do with Dunker and Logan Jones etc. Maybe grab a few WR’s etc. thoughts? Great win on Friday! Loving it 😍

Not seeing it. A lot of talent being lost, new QB, and some tough teams on the schedule. Likely same results as this year. But, you never know.

Incomplete information at this point, but it appears these thoughts will not be backed by money

QB - Stick with what we have
RB - Molten, McNeil and XWill - I think T. Washington and Jazz are gone.
TE - We are set
OL - Need depth through NIL. Thinking Pieper moves to center. Lauck and Dotzler at tackles. Need help at guards.
WR - RVZ, Howard & KJ Parker will start. Possible spot for NIL $$$

DL - Excited for new DE’s (come at me) Seems like they were swallowed up many games this year. Love the potential of Allen, Merrieweather, Anderson and Chineke. Throw in young Eppy the future is bright.
Need NIL $$ help on the interior.
LB - I have been calling for the young LB’s since the Iowa State game.
DB - Waston and Godfrey need to be the starters at corner. Lee as a depth piece.
Lutmer at cash/FS. SS is probably Kolarik or and NIL move.

We’re putting a lot of faith in a QB who only took what, 6 snaps this year ? In a blow out….where the other team has their backups in too

I know Tate came in to 2004 with little to no experience and we are projecting him on to H….

I just can’t trust Kirk or this offense until they actually show something besides time mgmt
Remember the drive to 325? That year they ended up scoring around 229 points or so. This year they scored 347 and averaged 29 ppg. Major improvements have been made.

And we average 16ppg against the ranked teams.

Its great that Lester has gotten us to the point where we can run all over the bad to middle of Big10 teams

We still look like BF offense against the good teams

I watched us take the ball, drive the entire field and stick it in the endzone vs Oregon and Indiana on multiple occasions. Agreed it wasn’t enough but those teams are also 23-1 this year.

Agreed, he's proven nothing. He could be the guy yes, but you always stay active in today's CFB if you don't have an established QB. QB was the difference in our wins as well as a massive reason we took those late leads. QB and O and D trenches need to always be in play in the portal.

The OL will be interesting, but we have brought in a bunch of guys in the last 2 years (basically all soph) who have been getting work in practice, Allgeyer, Winters, Janowski, Nolan, McCaslin amd Leonard. Several were pretty decent recruits. Add to that Leighton Jones who got solid reps in games this year. Peiper, Dotzler and Lauk all return as starters. Myslinski may return and could play center or guard. We should be in pretty good shape actually. Does Byrce George have another year or was this his only season?

I agree that Jazz will probably transfer and that makes me sad. I see why the coaches like Moulton better but I still think that Jazz was banged up and has a high ceiling.

Just to add we have some studs coming in, not sure who might enroll early. Nielsen, Riordan, Whithers, Linder, and Parliment. I wouldn't be surprised see a couple especially Parliment in the 2 deeps next year.

It’s true a lot of seniors are going, but only Wetjen and Dunker were true impact players. Most of the best players return, and most of the seniors had younger guys either take their jobs (Montgomery over Rexroth) or earn more rotational time where they showed they looked ready (Allen, Merrieweather, Godfrey, Howard, Vohname, etc).

Tough games are OSU, Michigan, Illinois, Washington, and ISU. (Minnesota and Nebraska might improve, but history says probably not). Gotta go 3-2 in those 5 games and playoffs might be on the table. Realistically we will go 1-4 or 2-3 and miss out with 8 or 9 wins… as usual.

Lots of people on both sides will not be back. OL needs help, LB needs help. Glad Van Zee is only a soph, his freak injury definitely cost the Hawks some receptions this year, Hopefully we have the right QB on the roster. Go Hawks!

Guaranteed Losses:
Ohio State
Iowa State
Washington
Michigan

OSU and Mich for obvious reasons, but for Iowa State, Kirk will have to prove to me he can beat them as I've lost faith that he can outcoach Campbell at this point. Same with Washington, he'll have to prove he can win on the west coast, because the west coast is his kryptonite.

So sadly we're looking at more if the same next year.

Indiana is ranked #2 in the nation, giving up an average of 11 points per game. We scored 15.

Oregon is ranked #9 in the nation, giving up 15 points per game. We scored 16.

Iowa ranks #58 in scoring offense. A whole 4 spots behind Michigan and 3 spots behind Nebraska. We are ranked higher than ISU.

The Iowa Offense was better this year than many people realize or give credit for.

Don’t know what to think of that Mich QB. At least Ann Arbor seems to be a place where Iowa teams have not been intimidated to play in.
Agree. Michigan was dreadful on offense in a lot of games this year. And I’m not sold on their coach at all. Even on the road it’s somewhat of a winnable game.

Boy though, they are young. They lose their entire linebacking core next year, which hopefully helps, but that offense is going to be decent assuming Underwood improves.
