QB-Rather it's Martinez or someone else, I expect an improvement over Martinez regressing to 59.4% and only a 10 TD-9 INT ratio. He still did lead the Big 10 in rushing. Seems like a low bar whoever whens the starting job will have better stats especially if other areas on the team improve like expected.
RB-Mills gave fans some excitement for what he can do next year. Need 1 more running back to step up. Robinson when healthy provided some spark. Frost mentioned would like to only rush him 5 times a game. Being optimistic that 1 of the Freshman recruits will give a spark.

WR-I feel good about a health Spielman, Robinson, and Warner. Tough this year with only 1 healthy guy most games. Hoping 1 of the redshirt Freshman, new recruits/transfer steps up. Just 1 more difference-maker can make a big difference.

TE-Seems like either bad blocking, drop balls, or lack of Yards After Catch this year most games. The sit out transfer Travis Vokolek is the best blocker in practice. Had 15 catches for Rutgers the last year he played. Hoping to see progression with him playing and Allen/Stoll getting more experience.

Oline-Started off brutal but seen progression towards the end of the year. Still probably have to make some tough decisions like putting Farniok inside. Possibly replaing Hixson and Wilson.

DE-lose Khalil Davis and for a team that struggled with pass rushing he did lead the team with 8 sacks. Stille coming back is the look of a beast and good tackler. The problem is doesn't provide a pass rush threat. Lots of hype with Jahkeem Green and Robinson. Hoping, one or both will provide a spark but still just potential. May need to keep hitting the Juco/Grad Transfer Portal for this position.
DT-Darrion Daniels was an upgrade over Carlos Davis this year. Losing him will be a void. Hoping his brother will be able to step up. Still, the future is unknown at this position. May need to keep hitting the Juco/Grad Transfer Portal for this position.

Outside Linebacker-Disappointing to see Ferguson hardly see the field as a 5th year Senior. Davis was a 2 star recruit that I guess was the best we had. Hd did do some good things towards the end of the year but still need an upgrade. Tannor lost his blackshirt. Will see if he can live up to his potential. Garrett Nelson plays with passion. Still lots of unknowns with a lot of underachievement at this position.
Inside Linebacker-Lose Mo Barry. He led the team for tackles again. However, scores low in the PFF rankings a lot. Just didn't see many sacks and lot of tackles he had running backs ran over him for 3 or 4 yards. Colin MIller and Will Honas showed some promise. Have 3 other players that redshirted. More competition would be a good thing.
CB-Lose Lamar Jackson which will be a loss. Cam Taylor should be able to take the next step up. Have some other guys with potential. Maybe, Clark will be that next guy steping up.
Safety-Only losing Eric Lee who was a backup. Deontai Williams being healthy could be a nice upgrade. Jo Jo forces turnovers but also has some head scratching moments. Hoping for more consistency. I feel good about the return of Marquel Dismuke and redshirt freshman Noa Pola-Gates and Farmer stepping up.
Kicker-The Soccer kicker seems to be a spark with field goals. Still need to figure out how to kick kickoffs in the endzone or learn how to tackle better on special teams. Punting has some ups and downs. Need 1 more guy to step up.

Offense
  1. Line needs to improve drastically in run and pass pro.
  2. Need a vertical threat at receiver
  3. Must sort out the QB situation. Cannot survive another season with what AM gave us. He either has to drastically improve or we play someone else.
Defense
  1. DB. Should be better next year even though it will be tough to replace Jackson.
  2. DL. Losing 3 starters off the line is not good. Hoping the new guys can bring it.
  3. LB. So many question marks here. JoJo and Nelson give us some stability at OLB but many issues at ILB and our ability to generate a pass rush in the 3-4. We don't have our version of a Griffin in this defense.
Special Teams
  • Start taking it seriously. HCSF has treated Special Team as some kind of afterthought. It is one of the hallmarks of his failure as a coach.
Coaching Staff
  1. HCSF must become a head coach, not a co-head coach with Chins. He must understand what is going on with the defense and special teams.
  2. HCSF must be become a game day head coach, not just an OC and play caller. He needs to understand and manage the game that he is responsible for. Whether or not that involves turning over play calling I don't know. He needs to understand the game situation and what is going on the field.
  3. HCSF must become a leader of young men. Virtual signaling that he won't tolerate certain activities and then tolerating them for some players is not a good look. Throwing his players under the bus after losses is not a way to earn your players' trust. Telling your players you need better players than what you have is not a way to earn your players' trust. Man up, lose that whiny, loser attitude.
  4. HCSF must be the face and leader of the program. That means get rid of the arrogance and stubbornness. Learn from your mistakes, reach out and ask for help. Stop looking like a whipped dog at press conferences, you are getting paid plenty to stand there.
