Could be a Cinderella year. I'm not going to rule it out. Certain things have to align, some obviously are, but it's definitely a possibility.

I will say this. If Leach coaches us to a 9-3 regular season he needs to be up for COTY.

Being a little more serious while still being wooly:

@NCSt will be our only non-conference game that's not a cupcake. Arkansas and UM are going to be transitioning from bad seasons with new coaches. I still think we should be able to beat both of them even with a non-optimized leach offense. So I think 5-1 is a pretty reasonable expectation out of those and 6-0 is possible. 4-2 would be disappointing but not ridiculously bad considering our WR situation.

UK and Missou I have no clue what to expect, but I doubt either of them are going to outmatch us to the point that we aren't competitive with them.

A&M and Auburn I expect to still be too talented for us, although both have tendencies to just go through awful stretches despite their talent, so you never know.

LSU and Bama I expect to outclass us by enough that an upset is unreasonable to even dream of.

But I think 6 wins is pretty doable. 7 would be a really good showing by Leach. And I think there are going to 8 games we have a good shot at winning even if we are not favored in 8, and another two where an upset is not too crazy to dream of even if they're unlikely.

So even in a down year, we could very likely see 9 games where we either win or at least keep it competitive enough that it's not over before the 4th quarter. That will be a big improvement over Moorhead if Leach can pull that off, even if he ultimately only gets six wins out of it.

Getting to 6 next year is going to be a struggle. It was going to be a struggle with Moorhead anyway though.

And I wouldn’t put an automatic W next to Tulane just yet...

WHEW LAD little early to hit the bottle?

We're losing key players on defense and transitioning to a new offense. 5-7/6-6 to me would be considered a successful season for State.

I think we're bad enough at WR that we can't put an automatic W next to NCst or Tulane, but Tulane won six games this year. They'll probably get better but they beat USM by about the same margin we did with our true freshman QB coming in. If we don't have some pretty significant growing pains, we should still get by them.

Yeah seriously though. I'm looking to win the ones we are favored in and being competitive in the others with maybe one upset. Of course that's all we can ever hope for. Main goal is that we arent calling him Moorleach or Leachhead by mid-season.

I can almost guarantee you that we won't be comparing him to Sloppy Joe, but it is going to be a rough October next year.

I only had Joe winning 3-5 games. The Pirate should be able to pull 5-7 wins next season while he is changing things around but we will have fun on offense because he won't install a "system" that is complicated. He favors execution over complexity, and practice over scheming.

I’m not sure we are as bad at receiver as we (means me,too) think. I think Leach’s system will put them in much better position to succeed than SloMo. Hitting them in space and such, not just expect them to run past their guy downfield. I’m hopeful, anyway.

It is going to be a struggle next year. Will be a tough year. Will be a dog fight for 5-6 wins while he uproots this roster.

This is what I’ve been saying. As a whole, our offensive players are more talented than what we’ve seen. SloJoe over coached or coached them down.
