If Matt is not just blowing smoke up our &$# then I bet Chris Holtmann is on that list for one reason: scare the boosters into giving enough to really turn Stevens’ or Donovans’ head. Which would incidentally also be enough money to make that buyout less painful. Kind of a dick move in a bad economy but I wouldn’t put it past Capilouto—he’s a reptile and Barnhart’s only a yes man.

The crazy things is we hired Parker Executive Search Firm in 2007 that delivered us BCG.
My understanding, and I've heard it mentioned somewhere...possibly KSR...was that Barnhart didn't hire any search firm in '07.
Or, maybe it was that he didn't take any of their recommendations. Def one of the two scenarios.

Like how they play but he'd have to go somewhere else and prove he can recruit. I'd really had my eye on Todd Golden but UF took the chance on him, so we'll find out soon enough.
Yeah I thought that could be a nice pick up for UF. So hard to judge how some of these guys will do stepping up in levels. But the pickings are pretty slim for trustworthy, accomplished coaches who might be ready to step into Cal’s shoes.

I’m almost at the point of bringing in someone young and hungry who kills it in the interview. Might hit a grand slam, but if you miss, I’m not sure all is lost. With the transfer portal and NIL, shouldn’t be hard to re-group into a decent team pretty much overnight by bringing in a more predictable hire.

I just think we need a culture shift and a system adjustment, and for that you might need someone as hungry as Pitino was when he showed up.

Putting the cart in front of the horse, but it isn’t going to shock me if Cal leaves at any time. He has to be weighing his options, whatever those might be.

Pulling Mark Few away from Gonzaga is like taking Coach K away from Duke. It's absolutely not happening. He's not leaving the kingdom he built himself.

Based on what? You don't think quadrupling his salary or more ,and coming to a blue blood wouldn't tempt him? It would be negligent not to at least float him an offer.

Who had a worse record while coaching at UK, BCG or JC?

Yet JC won a championship...you can only ride that wave for so long.

Why would you say Stevens and Donovan aren't happening?

Both are very comfortable in the NBA. I know we as college basketball fans believe the glory and excitement is with college but the reality is the prestige is with professional basketball. Coaching and negotiating sum up professional basketball. There is a lot of additional fluff that goes along with college even in addition to recruiting.

I think many of you haven't excepted that recruits aren't coming to UK (or other blue bloods) these days because of the tradition. They are coming because of Cal.
Sure UK has the tradition but kids these days don't care about that as much. Of course they will embrace it while they're here but the game has changed as has the recruiting

Whether he resigns or is bought out, I'm afraid there are dark days coming in the short term if this partnership ends badly

And before anyone says 10m a year will get the guy we want...any coach we would be ok with is probably making multiple million per year already with far less stress

Hope I'm wrong

Matt Jones today said he had some knowledge of who Ky would target if CAL left today. The first 2 calls are to Brad Stevens and Billy Donavan. If neither was interested then Chris Holtmann would get the job. Thoughts? Does that change anyones opinion on getting rid of CAL.
Mitch Barnhart CANNOT be allowed to solely make that decision. Maybe he never does, IDK. The Gillispie hire should have gotten him fired. A committee of KNOWLEDGABLE UK BB alumnus and friends (coaches, players, NBA connected people) need to be consulted thoroughly. The coach should be young and hungry, IMO. The hire must be bold and aggressive. I think the Todd Golden hire a FL will pay huge dividends for Florida. I love everything he said at his press conference. This conference needed that as much a Florida. LOL ... so GA hires Mike White ... classic head scratching WTF? Todd Golden reminds me of a young Pitino. I'm really happy to see Florida make that type of hire. Every hire UK makes ... someone is trying to cover their *** before insuring the person is the best for the program, it seems. UK can't afford to screw up another BB hire. Calipari has aged out and his behavior and attitude are detrimental to the Program, IMO.
