There is a 0% chance Holtmann would be considered here.
Literally f n 0.

Yeah, MJ was just trying to mine for clicks and create discussion that would center around him. So, I guess technically he succeeded.
Honestly, I can see Barnhart having Holtmann on his list but, nearer the bottom than the top. And I doubt very seriously if he'd waste his time on Donovan or Stevens. Remember, UK will almost certainly hire a service to vet any potential candidates. This won't be BCG 2.0.
However, I can also see MB reaching out to someone like Tony Bennett at UVA. Why? Because he'd most likely prefer someone who is more closely aligned to him religiously and personally.
Calipari and Barnhart couldn't be more opposite.
Bennett wouldn't be popular with the fans either but, he'd be a step up from Holtmann.
The crazy things is we hired Parker Executive Search Firm in 2007 that delivered us BCG.

Matt Jones today said he had some knowledge of who Ky would target if CAL left today. The first 2 calls are to Brad Stevens and Billy Donavan. If neither was interested then Chris Holtmann would get the job. Thoughts? Does that change anyones opinion on getting rid of CAL.
I am neither a Cal lover or hater.
Fine if he leaves, but one thing that will remain a constant.
No matter who we get, there we are.

He makes a hell of alot more than that .

While I agree with rdf that he would be the grand slam home run hire when Cal retires, not going to happen.

1 Happy where he is at.
2 Makes stupid $ now.
3 It’s MIAMI !
4 Pat Riley is not stupid enough to let him get away.
How much does he make? If you google his salary it says 3 mil. Just curious how you know he makes more than that?

He's a **** coach for this or any elite job. For those who hate Cal's "Stall Ball" late in a game-imagine a game where that is how they play all game. He doesn't just ignore modern basketball, he ignores scoring as being important.

Get that some are upset with Cal but Holtmann would be fired at Kentucky within 2 yrs. He's awful fit for this program.
I’ve put him on my list before. I agree after I looked at his record at OSU.

“It was reported in January 2020, that the Miami Heat higher ups reward Erik Spoelstra with an extra $120,000 after each victory, whether it be the regular season or the Playoffs.

The $120,000 per win is on top of the $3 million he is set to earn as his base salary for coaching the Heat. This puts Spoelstra’s 2020 season earnings, well over 9 million dollars.”

Im not big any coach who hasn’t been to a final four. You can go after assistants or newer coaches and it can work out (see Arizona), I’d rather not roll the dice though.

Stevens and Donovan aren’t happening. Holtman is a mediocre hire. Back to what I’ve been saying for weeks. It’s just not as simple as it seems.
Well we cant keep Cal. He will drag the program to oblivion woth his stibbornness. He’s lucky he gets to coach next year after the last two seasons. He should be kissing Barney’s rear end.

Remember the name ERIK SPOELSTRA.
Sure. One of the top basketball minds is going to leave his secure job in Miami where he gets a months long offseason to enjoy South Beach to come coach in a pressure cooker where he'd have to work 12 months a year.

College coaching jobs are not as appealing as many of you people think they are.

Here’s a name I haven’t heard mentioned.

rick pitino

why? Bc the guy can coach, develop, recruit. Probably the most complete college coach. If he had stayed to begin with it would be “ratface who?”. You hire pitino on a 3-5 year deal and turn the hiring for the next coach to him. He will bring in a protege that will be the next Donovan or even pitino. Forget the problems at UL with NIL pitino will keep it clean not to mention would be extremely motivated for a title. He cares about winning
And as a side benefit, Cal gets a severe case of the chapped *** on the way out the door :)

We couldn't get Mark Few?
The guy is only making 1.8 million a year at Gonzaga.
(kind of puts in perspective the ridiculous amount we pay Calipari, doesn't it?)
Pulling Mark Few away from Gonzaga is like taking Coach K away from Duke. It's absolutely not happening. He's not leaving the kingdom he built himself.

Stevens and Donovan are the first 2 calls every blue blood makes and they've turned every offer down to stay in the NBA. It's obvious the stress of being a college coach isn't worth the extra money if you can survive in the NBA.

Holtmann would have been a home run hire last year, he had a rough year this year, but the fact that he has Lexington roots and would passionately do his job putting Kentucky before anything else is a huge benefit. I would support a Holtmann hire.

However Holtmann is not a coach so hot I'd be dying to push Cal out the door for. In all likelihood Holtmann is the guy for the job in 2-3 years once Cal's ready to leave on good or bad terms, if Holtmann maintains Ohio State being a good team then he's basically the coach in waiting here.

There are guys like Tommy Lloyd and Scott Drew out there who I would fire Cal today for, but by the time Cal hangs up the vocal chords that yell "GOOOO" they will probably not be on the market.

No one much over 50 should be hired.
Need some fresh blood, a guy that will stick around for a while.

If UK needed to hire a coach right now, which we don't and won't, I would want Vogel. He's a UK grad. He's fairly young. He coached here and played on the JV here.

He's probably out in LA as he's getting the blame.

Would he step down to college? He's a proven winner in the NBA. He won't be out of a job long if the Lakers fire him.

Just looked up Holtmann‘s class for next season. He has a good class coming in next season.

Had Donavon been the coach here with the players Cal has had we would’ve had at least 3 Championships, imo.

No you wouldn't. Total and utter nonsense.
You don’t know what I would or wouldn’t say. Cal is a human. He’s isn’t above reproach. In fact, if he was worth any salt, he’d welcome the call outs.

So. The only nonsense here is your pontificating response.

I don’t disagree but he’s here for the next 2 possibly 3 years unless he decides on his own to go elsewhere. At the 2 year mark, let’s explore who might be interested.

Only a boob would meet him for the first time, by chance, and call him out for ruining their couch time. But the world has lots of idiots, so I’m sure some would do it.

Ruining couch time? Wow. You’re clueless. Absolutely clueless. The greatest tradition in college basketball is now reduced to couch time.

Cal puts his pants on the same way I do. And the only reason he has a job is because fans (and boosters) pay millions of dollars every year to see the product he puts out. If fans get tired of that product, attendance suffers. And if that happens for too long. The university and athletics lose money.

So yes, it’s a lot more than just about couch time. and for clarity? I watch either standing, sitting in chair, or listen while I’m driving.

Billy Donovan? Seriously? Bring toilet paper because he’ll just take another giant **** on us and he never bothers to flush. Funny how lighting in a bottle mesmerizes some.

At least Cheating scumbag Pearl wasn’t on the list.

The good news, this is just another attention seeking ploy by the press. Cal isn’t going anywhere. I know it. You know it. They know it.
