He’s here at least 2 more years after this season, but the next 2 may get real ugly given our lack of portal success…you can’t win with freshman, and you can’t win getting the wrong low major transfers… Cam Spencer is only one that worked out…and we only shop in the bargain bin portal shops

What "off ramp" is going to pay him the 24million he is guaranteed. He won't leave that money on the table.
Richie has said he thinks Pike can find a job equal to Rutgers. A lot of posters on this board think Pike is a highly respected coach and could easily get another big job. If that is true, I wonder if he wouldn't want a fresh start.

If Rutgers next AD doesn't fire Pikiell after next season (assuming it's a bad as we all think) then we hired the wrong AD

If Rutgers actually hires a legitimate AD then that person will want to make a big time hire and put their stamp on the Athletic Department. Since Schiano isn't going anywhere, they will be itching to fire Pike after next season

Henderson knows how to coach basketball and put offensive schemes in place. With Rutgers' resources he'd be great.
Pike knows how to put defensive schemes into place, but without the continuity and pieces he’s hapless. I fear the same.

He likely has about 15 months left at RU.

The fallout from not making the tournament with 2 lottery picks is insurmountable. Some of you have your head in the sand because you think too small time.

No chance in hell a coach who misses the tournament 4 straight years survives, especially when his new boss never hired him.

Go read the national comments about our games. This brand damage this has done is horrible.

I’m just trying to figure out when it went south for Pike. I feel like he didn’t correct some of his coaching philosophy flaws and continued to double down on them. Honestly, shocked
It went south when Geo Baker ran out of eligibility. Like I said in another thread, Steve couldn’t get us to the tournament with Cam Spencer and a more complete roster than this year. I guess Geo was really that valuable to Steve.

Your 100% right and it's ridiculous anyone thinks otherwise. Rutgers will have plenty of money with the Big Ten TV revenue coming in to buy out Pike's contract and there is no way he makes it past next year unless he somehow made the tournament next year.

I don’t even think Pat Riley or Phil Jackson could win here.
Rutgers had had a history of bad administration, that kept us out of the Big East, and made bad hire after bad Hire added to a navigation into a bad conference the A10, when we got into the Big East we came on as a red headed step child and continued to make bad hires.
There is nothing wrong with the job especially now, a Big 10 team in the most fertile recruiting area in the country.
Lots of opportunity to hire the right coach and lots of opportunity for the coach who gets hired.
Need to start with a good administrator to make the next hire!
Bob Mulcalhy almost pull it off with Jay Wright.

Putting offensive schemes in place is much more difficult than playing solid man to man defense.
It’s takes work research creativity ingenuity imagination determination and dedication.
Pike has not displayed any of these characteristics. I am being as nice as I can be!

You forget the bar is very low here. Many will use pikes one NCAA victory as a reason to keep him here forever.

at 65 i wonder if hed even wanna change jobs but fran mccaffrey is a philly guy and always has a fun team that is excellent offensively.

But pikes here for at least 2 more years imo. Barring him resigning and opting to retire
Are you really interested in watching that guy's dramatics and incessant whining at the refs 30 times a season? He is an insufferable human being during the game. Seems ok off the court.

His teams don't play defense and therefore are never ready for the post season. I understand he could be an upgrade to Pike, but i wouldn't be able to tolerate his antics.

Pikiell isn't going anywhere after this season BUT a conversation is needed. His *** will feel warm after this season.

He’s done ! This is turning into a dumpster fire and next year may be his worst season ever with the players lined up.

No reason to pay him to watch us finish below 500 out of the big ten tournament and further ruin our brand more.

Thank him and let’s start fresh in a new direction with hope .

I can see it now, the line of coaches who interview for the job & their first question is how much yearly NIL will I have to recruit in the portal? Then then walk out of the interview laughing hysterically

Is that after they see we had two of the highest paid athletes on the same team or after they see the 20MM allocation we will get from the Big Ten*.

• yes I know it’s to be divided amongst all sports.

You mean the same $20 million every school will be allowed to spend?

3 months ago we had hopes of making it to the 2nd weekend and now we’re looking at a program that needs to be rebuilt. truly sad twist of fate.
True but luckily in the portal world the right coach can turn it around year 1 and definitely year 2

That's not how it works. Big buyouts are funded by the boosters. We don't have a big enough fan base to find the NIL, where is the buyout money coming from?

no it’s not. hs teams have perfectly good systems. the problem is that the portal guys can’t play. add flammable Davis and Ogbole into the portal talent cesspool what you get is the Cuyahoga River Fire.

Thought you meant Bobby Knight, but he's dead, he might put some life into the roster.
Brandon Knight helped get us into this mess. I think once the season is over and there are no more Harpers, Brandon Knight will either go on his own or be asked to move on. If Pike comes back it can't be with the same staff.

A lot of years says it is. Man to man defense, which is mostly used, is finite and can be taught by most decent HS coaches. It basically takes a good athlete and an average basketball IQ to become great defensive player. Offenses are way more varied, can be more complex, require more basketball skills, and more creativity on the part of the coach.
