It would be quite interesting to see Drew here. Rick Barnes literally hates the man and his recruiting tactics.

How did Oats even make this list?
If there is any chance at all Billy D or Jay Wright would be interested, you go after them with everything you have. Of the ones mentioned, I would take Muss.
I think Drew would be a good option and one that I think might take the job.

Who is the guy at lexington catholic high be worth a shot could not do any worse and free up some money for scholarships to the needy.
Brad Stevens hasn't coached a college game in 10 years. The landscape has changed quite a bit since then. Offering that kind of money to a guy who hasn't seen a Final Four since 2011 is almost as bad as giving someone a lifetime contract.
Knowing Barnhart, he would probably hire Chris Holtmann.
Frank Vogel should get a look. Took the blame for a poorly built roster in LA.
The usual delusional names come up yet again. Brad Stevens, Jay Wright, Billy Donovan aren't even picking up the phone. Scott Drew already won a title at Baylor. There's nothing he can do at UK he can't do at Baylor and if he stays there he'll be their Rupp. No reason to leave. Nate Oats would get run out of Lexington in three years.
Musselman is the only realistic option here and in reality it would be Mitch throwing a dart at a dart board and hoping he hit someone who works out well at UK.

I think there are names you call before those 3. Even if it’s just out of respect I think you have to call Jay Wright and Brad Stevens. You wouldn’t be doing the proper due diligence if you didn’t. That said, this program needs to evolve it’s style of basketball and I think any of those 3 coaches would do well. I think our resources as a program would bolster any of the deficiencies our new coach may have.

Bruce Pearl at UK would resemble the 1990's Pitino teams.
He is an excellent recruiter. He has a huge personality that would thrive in the UK spotlight. He plays a fast paced run and gun offense that we like. His teams are energetic and fight like crazy for 40 minutes. He took Auburn, which was probably the worst basketball program in the SEC, and turned them into a perennial Top 15 team. Not to mention winning SEC Titles.
I hated the guy when he was at UT, but he would be my top choice at the moment.

Scott Drew would be the answer. He has won a title at a non-traditional basketball power in Baylor. With the way he can recruit, you would think he would be a slam dunk at UK. No clue if he would actually come here, though.
I think I’d throw the bank at Billy D and see if he’d bite. He can coach, he could kill recruiting at UK, and most importantly could handle the program. Not sure people like Oates or Musselman could. Drew, I’m not sure.

Drew has only been past the Sweet 16 three times in the past 20 years. He would be Tubby 2.0

Another one is look at if you miss on the first or second big college name and you’re hiring a perceived bigger risk anyways…Steve Nash.
Nash didn’t work out in Brooklyn but that’s largely bc KD is a loser everywhere except piggybacking in Golden State (great individual player but loser nonetheless). *** to that the Harden and Kyrie drama and that’s a tough position to be in as a babysitter of grown men who all prefer to play 1v1 ball dominant instead of a system.
If Nash would agree that he’d run variations of the 7 second or less suns offensive system (it’s what he ran as the PG when they were putting up 120+ daily)…then I think he has the name and clout tk recruit well and we’d be playing a fun system with NBA concepts beyond “go get a bucket”

God I hope Pearl never coaches Kentucky. I know him personally from his days at Southern Indiana and he’s a big jerk that I can’t stand.
What has Pearl done in the tournament since at Auburn? 2018 lost in second round, 2019 lost in final four, 2022, lost in second round. That's it.
Meanwhile, Drew just won the national championship in 2021 and has another great team this year. Drew brought them back from one of the biggest NCAA scandals in basketball history.

Drew's teams usually lose in the first weekend of the tourny. Baylor has only made it past the first round of the tournament 5 times in the past 20 years.
Vogel for sure gets a look if I’m AD. Holtmann at OSU is probably getting the job if Barney is still the AD he and Chris are friends and KSR said last year they had heard he would be at the top of the list if not the next Coach.
